As a Principal Embedded Systems Engineer you will work closely with a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop and commercialize high-performance fuel cell power generation technologies for remote and autonomous applications.
The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of embedded software design methodologies, environments, and architectures for electromechanical control systems (and ideally for hydrogen fuel cell and battery charge/management systems). Thrives on and enjoys problem solving, a hands-on approach and a dynamic work environment. Personal strengths include well-structured problem solving, risk-taking, attention to detail, written and verbal communications and team development skills.
You will be leading and developing firmware from the hardware to the applications layer, and as such a thorough understanding of digital microprocessor, peripheral, communications, and analog/digital conversion electronics is imperative. A working understanding of both point to point and multipoint Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) interfaces, protocols, and services is helpful.

You will manage projects, coordinate across multiple organizations and build deep technical knowledge. You will participate in developing new concepts and writing proposals to government funding agencies to secure project funding. You will work in an agile environment to solve complex problems with speed and creativity. This role reports to the Advanced Alternative Power section within Honeywell Aerospace Advanced Technology.  


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage, enhance efficiency, and expand capabilities of a small embedded software development team.
  • Implement fuel cell system embedded control firmware in C++.
  • Drive object-oriented code architecture, maximizing code reuse and optimizing unit test and functional verification test efficiency and speed.
  • Drive and shepherd code development, build, and verification processes. Champion a collaborative environment where multiple geographically disperse developers can effectively work on a large project.
  • Own all software development projects, managing workload between yourself and multiple team members. Prioritize work based on customer needs and strategic importance.
  • Help hire and direct a skilled, creative, and productive software development organization.
  • Champion man/machine interfaces, focusing on ease of use and intuitive operation.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • B.S. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science.
  • 10 + years of object-oriented embedded software development experience, controlling electromechanical systems.
  • 3 + years of embedded software project leadership experience, leading small code development teams and producing code that is proven in a production environment.
  • Ability to interpret detailed electronic circuit schematics and understanding of basic electronic circuit design.

WE VALUE:

  • Masters degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or computer science.
  • Demonstrated ability to champion bringing embedded control products through the entire lifecycle, from concept to design to implementation to testing to production to support.
  • Experience working in an environment where embedded code is safety-critical: controlling systems that use hazardous gasses (like hydrogen), hazardous battery chemistries (like lithium-ion), etc. Proven track record of performing safety assessments and code reviews to assure safe operation in adverse conditions.
  • Experience applying Systems Engineering principles in the development of complex systems, including stakeholder analysis, requirements definition, system architecture and concept generation, trade-space exploration and concept selection, design definition and optimization, system integration and interface management, system safety, verification and validation, and commissioning and operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary product development and manufacturing team.
