The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that quality product is manufactured according to established standards and that all customer requirements are met for their assigned value stream while personifying the “One Team” concept throughout Band-IT.  This includes conducting audits of production parts and processes, heading efforts in resolving customer complaints, owning the corrective action process, and ensuring supplier quality.  Other responsibilities include maintaining and reporting on quality process dashboards, facilitating the PPAP process, supplier audits, and representation of quality interests in various meetings and teams.


  • Understands all of Band-IT’s quality systems and works to ensure cross functional support of the existing quality systems.  
  • Heads cross functional teams in problem solving and process improvement for customer complaints; owns validation of implementation of corrective actions and gives timely feedback where required; tracks CAs to closure and present findings to the greater team. Heads interim containment activities in response to non-conforming product and new products.
  • Participates & conducts supplier evaluations. Works with product engineering and sourcing for new supplier validation and provides approval from the quality team perspective. Initiates and heads supplier corrective actions and PPAP activities.  Works with vendors and the Band-IT cross functional team to resolve product quality issues, approving corrective measures.
  • Works with commercial team to understand and complete PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) as required by customer. Coordinates SWRs with production to create samples needed for PPAP, and completes sampling/testing as required. Works with customer to ensure timely submittal as required by customer. Completes annual validations proactively. Ensures timely response to all customer requests.
  • Owns synergy files for their value stream and generates updates for the in-process inspection systems.  Monitors inspection status and SPC results to ensure product conformity and elevates issues to Quality Manager when identified.  Works on cross-functional teams to create / manage control plans and PFMEA’s for products and processes.
  • Heads the MRB process for product related to the value stream, including dispositioning suspect or non-conforming product.
  • Heads efforts to test and inspect customer returned suspect product. Obtains appropriate data to help identify root cause and supports development of effective solutions in reducing the defects that occur in manufacturing/assembly processes.
  • Conducts process audits in various manufacturing departments to ensure that operators are producing parts to specifications and following established procedures.  Documents observations and presents findings and action items to departmental supervisor(s).  Follows-up on action items through completion.
  • Creates and documents standard work processes, visual aids, and quality alerts as required.
  • Execute standard work to ensure all Quality KPIs are met.

  • Working knowledge of algebra and statistics including SPC.
  • Must be familiar with operating a PC, MS Word, Excel and databases.

  • Ability to make presentations before management groups.


  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical / Industrial preferred). 
  • 0-2 years of experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Supplier Quality experience, including Supplier Audits, a plus.
  • Experience working with automotive customers and/or knowledge of automotive quality tools (PPAP’s, APQP, FMEA’s, G8D Corrective Action process, etc….)
  • Lead Auditor certification for ISO9001/TS16949 (or IATF 16949) or qualified by internal training and/or experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Approximately 40% of the time will be spent on the floor.
  • Approximately 10% of the time is spent bending and crouching.
  • Requires use of hands and arms at least 60% of the time.
  • Lifting requirements are generally less than 10 lbs. Lifting could occasionally reach the company maximum of 65 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Time is primarily spent in a climate-controlled office, with the balance in a shop environment.
  • Noise exposure is light to moderate.

Mental/Visual Demands:

  • Close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are necessary to perform the job functions.
  • Peripheral vision is required for safety.

  • The estimated compensation for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 per year
  • This position may be eligible for a business unit bonus of 5% annually
