Principal Software Architect – Connected Aerospace

The Principal Software Architect is the architecture leader and software technology visionary for all the Connected Software programs across Aero GBEs, such as Connected Radar, NGA – Connected, Connected TXD, Connected Engines etc.

This role is part of CAST – Connected Aero Steering Team in MET-Connected along with other fellow(s), Chief(s) and other engineering leaders from ES, S&C and HCE, to drive the software strategies consistently across all existing and upcoming connected programs. The Principal Software Architect will also have to work closely with product, systems, architecture, and development teams across various Aero GBEs and product COEs with direct responsibilities for the overall mobile and web technology roadmap, application/product software architecture for Connected software products owned by Aero SBG.

The position requires solid knowledge, experience, and background of full stack development of mobile & web/cloud applications and industry standards as well as long history of architecture, design, development, and deployment skills. The principal architect will establish and maintain technology standards, evaluate new technologies and technology innovation. The architect will be responsible for technology planning and overall application architecture and functional specifications across platforms and multiple programs. It also requires inherent skills of tradeoff between technology forward and product/market backward to arrive at optimal solution to solve the customer problem. This keeper of the core platform strategy requires an eye to details to sense the risks associated with new technologies and should be able to pivot to an alternate approach with minimal impact to the application.

This role requires a technology leader is well versed in the large-scale commercial software development, organized, detail oriented and able to deliver results on-time and within budget. It also requires the candidate to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external teams – Product chiefs, connected chief, LSEs from product COEs, vendors, offering manager, UX teams, HCE Architecture group and the engineering team.

This role will report into Director of Engineering of MET-COE and matrixed into engineering leader of Connected Software and will be based in Bangalore.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

·         Architect for full stack web/Cloud development with exposure to latest technologies. Exposure of Honeywell Forge architecture and its roadmap is highly preferred.

·         Architect for mobile client (iPhone, Android, Surface) application architecture, user, functional and technical requirements

·         Understanding and exposure of connected solution architecture and approach to convert that into a viable and commercial product offering for Aerospace customers.

·         Accountable for high quality and customer centric product design and architecture.

·         Driver of new growth ideas and product solutions to take connected architecture on to new problem domains.

·         Drive design and approval of architecture that will pass Cyber security provisions. Ability to learn about and drive adoption of tools and DevSecOps

·         Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, and Operations to define clear requirements, deliverables, and milestones for mobile or web applications. Collaborate, Lead, and Inspire other engineers and budding architects.

·         Actively investigate interesting new tools and techniques: Rapid prototyping, Software platform and tool evaluation, selection, and optimization 

·         Develop criteria to be used when selecting technology and software engineering platforms 
Implementation and optimization of software engineering platforms and tools 

·         Enterprise software integrations: Design interfaces between mobile solutions and existing and/or brand-new enterprise application servers and applications 

·         Entrepreneurial: Passionate about working in a small, aggressive team in a fast-paced environment. Ready, capable, and willing to learn new technology as project needs dictate

·         Mentor and coach upcoming top talent in the area of software architecture.

·         Well-versed in non-certified software development process and qualification criteria for Aero.




Accomplished career experience in software architecture development for large enterprise-grade products – 3 or more of those. Best is when it is a ground up experience of defining, developing, and delivering a newly architected product using state-of-the-art architectural principles in the respective domain.

Minimum of 15+ years of software development experience.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.

Software Engineering experience within Aerospace and specially around cockpit systems is a definite added advantage.
