Job Description

Alion is looking for an immediate fill to support the Air Combat Command (ACC) A6 directorate at Langley AFB, VA. The Systems Administrator position provides enterprise-level maintenance and repair for server systems, software and network components; troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves hardware and software (both operating systems and applications) system problems; configures, maintains and upgrades network equipment and systems equipment including cleaning file systems, system logs, and maintains system baseline configurations; supports planning, integration, implementation, accreditation, and analysis of critical structures, systems, and processes; coordinates the installation and network implementation of operating systems with host units and external program offices; assists the information system security manager/officer (ISSM/ISSO) with system security management, analysis and documentation; administers user accounts, file permissions, and loads and configures software packages, updates, patches and performs system backups; develops and enhances the SolarWinds application for LAN/WAN monitoring for report and alert processes across the MAJCOM (ACC) to improve system and device health, status, patching, and reporting; identifies communications service requirements, system architectures and designs, and performs analysis on design and integration/implementation plans; analyzes and provides recommendations on emerging network-related technologies; provides weekly status updates of actions and activities and attends meetings to update leadership on project status; provides support, inputs, and documentation for effective project management.

Key Skills and Abilities:

The ideal candidate for the Systems Administrator task has the following Key Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • IA Technical Level II (i.e., GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP) certification IAW DoDD 8570 and DoDD 8570.01-M.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information management or related discipline plus 3 years’ experience or; an Associate’s Degree in computer science, information management or related discipline plus 7 years’ experience.

  • Two (2) years’ experience in administrating, configuring, installing and technical expertise in managing and operating SolarWinds.

  • One (1) year experience in telecommunications and network administration in a large distributed environment with emphasis on military operations.

  • One (1) year experience in life-cycle management of Local Area Network (LAN)/ Wide Area Network (WAN), test and evaluation, data performance and collection, quality assurance metrics and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), or Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional (CCNA/CCNP) or UNIX systems, network control center operations, requirement analysis, and computer-aided drawing, preferably Visio.

  • Two (2) years’ experience demonstrating network planning and integration knowledge.

  • Two (2) years’ experience with numbered air force (NAF) or higher staff organizations and base-level network architecture, as well as technical experience working issues with AFSPC NetOps organizations.

  • One (1) year experience in the installation, implementation, backups, administration and management of all aspects of SolarWinds.

  • Experience using Microsoft-suite of applications tools, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and SharePoint.
