Job Title: Program Manager, Data Policy                            


Primary role:

Assist leadership within the Office of Research and Office of Scientific Integrity with implementation and management of institution-wide research-related data processes, practices, policies.  Collaborate with key stakeholders and offices (OARC, Counsel, information security groups, DOCR) to ensure that research data is considered in key institutional and government regulations and policies.  Manage day-to-day operations of the maintenance, development, and implementation of data policy at Duke, and confer with key stakeholders to ensure alignment of policies with process and practices.  Develop and oversee new programming related to research data quality and integrity, as relevant to the mission of the Duke Office of Scientific Integrity (DOSI).  Reports to the Administrative Director, ASIST-DOSI.


Essential tasks/responsibilities:


  • Assist in the development and implementation of tools, policies and processes that support research data quality and integrity.  Ensure that new tools and procedures to evolve with changing federal, state, and local regulations as well as institutional policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that research faculty, staff and trainees have the tools necessary to find and interpret Duke’s research data policies and processes.  Coordinate activities with leadership within the Office of Research and the Office of Scientific Integrity to communicate policy and process updates to the research community.
  • Engage other support offices (e.g. DOCR, OASIS/DARC, Duke Libraries, OARC) across the institution to ensure alignment of goals and activities as they relate to research data.   Convene regularly to prioritize activities. Provide regular reports to stakeholders.
  • Identify areas of risk and process improvement related to research data practices.  Work to mitigate risks through creative and innovative quality management solutions, while being an advocate for compliance.
  • Develop, oversee and lead the execution of key institutional initiatives related to research data.  Includes ongoing maintenance and alignment of policies related to research data. Develop timelines and milestones and execute projects to meet them.
  • Participate in long-term strategic planning activities relevant to research data.  Ensure alignment of mission and fiscal responsibility of the services and tools.
  • Review protocols, publications, data management plans, and other research documents to assist in completing investigations and reviews related to Office of Scientific Integrity initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required: Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field; Master's degree preferred.


Six years directly related data management experience to include at least two years of administrative, supervisory or project management experience. Experience managing multiple projects & teams and experience supervising staff, particularly departmental teams or sub-groups are highly valued.
