Harvard Business School's Business History Initiative (BHI) promotes, encourages, and facilitates historical research and teaching among HBS faculty and, externally, to build upon the school's established position as a global leader in the field. BHI seeks to enable scholars, educators, and practitioners to better understand the modern business world by studying its past. Areas of faculty focus include the history of innovation, government policy, green business, emerging markets, and the origins of global capitalism. The Coordinator will help in the administration of multi-faculty projects; the running of the journal Business History Review, including the ordering of books and processing of reviews and in the production of the journal; the administration and promotion of workshops and seminars; the promotion and processing of fellowships and travel grants; the administration of the Harvard Series in Business History manuscripts; the drafting and sending-out of newsletters and emails; and the creation and upkeep of a database of business historians and historical research. Working closely with the Director of the Business History Initiative, the Coordinator helps to support a range of responsibilities, including helping in the administration of BHI's publications, fellowship and grants, workshops and seminars, and multi-faculty projects. The Coordinator helps to manage the workflow of the Business History Review, taking special responsibility to survey new publications, order books for review, and maintain a database of reviewers and reviewer interests. The Coordinator also aids in the regular outreach efforts of BHI, helping to gather content for newsletters and emails that announce seminars, recent publications, project updates, and other news. The Coordinator helps with the administration of BHI seminars and workshops, aiding in the scheduling, promotion, running, and reimbursements for such programs. The Coordinator will also help to promote and process BHI's many fellowship offering, which include a postdoctoral fellowship, travel grants, and mid-career visiting fellowships. The Coordinator will help in the maintenance and updating of the BHI website, so that the site features recent research, course offerings, new cases and other publications, and historical resources. The Coordinator will also help the Director by canvassing recent conferences and publication for relevant research for BHI projects and for the Harvard Studies in Business History monograph series. The Coordinator performs other duties as assigned. During the current period of COVID-19 related restrictions, this position may start as a remote position with the transition to onsite at HBS campus in Boston, MA when the office reopens. Salary Grade: 055 Union: 55 - Hvd Union Cler & Tech Workers 4+ years administrative or project management experience is required Candidates must have strong writing skills and the ability to help administer complex, multiphase projects; candidates must be effective writers and verbal communicators. Candidates must have the ability to build and maintain databases using Excel or another database system. Candidates preferably have strong interest in the discipline of History and will be asked to stay informed of recent publications in the field of Business History and Capitalism and in trends in historical writings.
