Director RIT Venture Creations Incubator 5769BR VP for Research RIT Venture Creations Detailed Job Description The Director of Venture Creations has the leadership responsibility for RIT's new business incubators, including Venture Creations, RIT's NYSERDA-sponsored Clean Energy Incubator (managed within Venture Creations): and the community business incubator. The director has the primary role of ensuring the efficient operation of the incubator and on incubating and launching successful companies that are derived from RIT innovations, intellectual property, and those that can benefit from RIT technology, services, and business acumen. Its primary clients are RIT faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of RIT. Clients may also include those without an RIT family connection, but whose businesses rely on technology where RIT excels, thereby creating the potential for involvement by RIT students, alumni, and faculty. The director has the supervisory responsibility of ensuring that the incubator provides high-quality services to incubating companies which facilitate the design, development, construction, and operation of these companies for the purpose of advancing the education and research missions of the Institute through the involvement of faculty, student, and staff. The Director is also expected to promote economic development and competitiveness in the Finger Lakes Region and New York State by encouraging and facilitating the transfer of technology and resources to the marketplace. Major Responsibilities include: Management and continuous improvement of incubator operations (VC, CEI, Community). fulfill obligation of Principal Investigator for the NYSERDA sponsored Clean Energy Incubator Manage staff, student workers, and contractors; Maintain staffing at proper levels within budget to support VCI objectives. Identification, evaluation, and acceptance of new clients. Provide mentoring and support services to coaches, clients, and other stakeholders. Be the public face of Venture Creations inside RIT and in the broader local entrepreneurial ecosystem, in support of marketing, fundraising, and other purposes. Serve on internal and external committees or workgroups as needed. Serve as a conduit between clients and university resources. Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Research. Required Minimum Qualifications A minimum of 10 years work experience is required to adequately perform the duties associated with the job. Experience with business creation and/or operation Experience with business incubators Knowledge of the business development process Marketing and sales experience Project management experience Supervisory management and hiring experience Preferred Qualifications: Business plan development experience Intellectual management experience property Local network of mentors, investors, and subject matter experts Masters degree in business administration 15 years management experience Proven record of fundraising, grant writing, and/or securing investor money Specialized Skills Desired: Ability to understand and operate with the unique aspects of working with entrepreneurs and working with coaches who work with entrepreneurs Ability to work/manage in an entrepreneurial environment within the context of a larger, academic organization Ability to work with state and federal government agencies to secure funding and properly mange the use of said funding.
