Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector is currently seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal Agile Coach to join our team of diverse professionals. The selected candidate will become a part of our Operational Excellence and Quality organization at one of our sector hubs in McLean, Virginia, Huntsville, Alabama, Orlando, Florida, or virtually as a full-time teleworker.

Operational Excellence and Quality organization are systems thinkers and guardians for our company, customers, and stakeholders. We are a multi-faceted organization, responsible for areas aligned to Strategic Resource Planning, Program Excellence, Engineering, Technology, Global Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Quality and Mission Assurance.

Through the role of an Agile Coach, the selected candidate will assist programs and functions in their adoption of Lean-Agile practices and work with programs to gather requirements and best practices to help establish organizational and program level Lean Agile engineering and management principles. Understanding the Northrop Grumman Lean-Agile Framework is essential along with the responsibility to help grow and mature this company-branded capability. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and continuously improving standard agile methodologies, policies, and procedures for an Agile, iterative solution lifecycle, from an executable architecture, concept development, iterative design, production, delivery, deployment, and sustainment.

The selected candidate will participate with the Northrop Grumman Lean-Agile Center of Excellence (LACE) as it defines objectives, strategies, and governance for company software, hardware, and digital technology development, and become a supporting member of the Agile Community of Practice providing input into plans and provide status on coaching and training as requested. The selected candidate may be requested to provide open enrollment training and backfill other coaching engagements on an as needed basis and engage with the other Lean-Agile coaches to continue to strengthen their skills and experiences.

Responsibilities:
  • Leads the efforts of developing Lean-Agile engineering and management best practices, metrics, governance, and organizational change management practices
  • Coaches teams and programs in Lean-Agile principles and practices
  • Enables delivery at scale using techniques such as program increment planning, Dev*Ops, portfolio management, agile product delivery, and business agility
  • Leads Lean-Agile organizational transformation to build a modern delivery capability, including setting a vision, aligning necessary resources, and communicating to executive levels on status/milestones
  • Conducts Lean-Agile team training and education, product backlog, retrospective workshops, and Lean Agile development workshops
  • Analyzes and articulates complex subject matter via white papers and presentations, enabling the ease of comprehension by customers and all stakeholders

Qualifications:

This position may be filled at either the Principal or Sr. Principal level.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Agile Coach:
  • Must have a high school diploma with a minimum of 9 years of broad technical experience
  • May also accept one of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 5 years of broad technical experience
    • Master's degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 3 years of broad technical experience
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years Lean-Agile experience supporting teams
  • Experience working with Scrum, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, Feature Driven Development, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration & Delivery, Dev*Ops, Scaled Agile (SAFe) and XP
  • Direct experience with transitioning teams to Lean-Agile practices, including both individual teams and multi-team projects
  • Must have an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be able to travel as needed (up to 25% of the time)

  • May also accept one of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 9 years of broad technical experience
    • Master's degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 7 years of broad technical experience
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years Lean-Agile experience supporting teams
  • Experience working with Scrum, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, Feature Driven Development, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration & Delivery, Dev*Ops, Scaled Agile (SAFe) and XP
  • Direct experience with transitioning teams to Lean-Agile practices, including both individual teams and multi-team projects
  • Must have an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be able to travel as needed (up to 25% of the time)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of the Toyota Production System
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Northrop Grumman Lean-Agile Framework
  • Ability to influence change across both team and leadership levels by through relationship building and collaboration
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and ability to prioritize work to ensure milestones are met
  • Ability to work effectively in cross functional (operations, management, and financial) teams
Salary Minimum for Principal Agile Coach: $92,000
Salary Maximum for Principal Agile Coach: $138,000

Salary Minimum for Sr. Principal Agile Coach: $114,080
Salary Maximum for Sr. Principal Agile Coach: $171,120

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
