A Research Assistant I/II position is available in the Division of Genetics and Genomics at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Our translational laboratory focuses on understanding rare disease mechanisms in the context of identifying therapeutic targets in genetic and epigenetic disorders with neurodevelopmental impact using a wide array of approaches including molecular (omics), protein biology, in vitro and in vivo modelling methods and model organisms.

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual to join a vibrant laboratory at the cutting edge of science and the interface of translational research and clinical medicine. Prior experience in laboratory techniques and animal (mouse) husbandry is preferred.

This Research Assistant II will be responsible for: 
  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Utilizes specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment.
  • Troubleshoots procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor. May suggest alternative routine procedures to crosscheck own findings. Performs techniques typically required for the laboratory/study.
  • Assists with planning specific research procedures, coordinating schedules of experiments and procedures. Develops and troubleshoots new techniques specific to the lab.
  • Maintains accurate records of results and methodologies into a log of work performed. Compiles and helps analyze data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.
  • Demonstrates basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents and students.
  • Contributes to  the team within and between departments and organizations.

To qualify, you must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM Field and one year of experience required (willing to consider candidates with less than a year).
  • The analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
