The [Senior Privacy Professional] is responsible for leading USC Health Systemâ??s (â??Health Systemâ??) strategy for ensuring compliance with applicable privacy laws that affect the organization including, but not limited to HIPAA, CMIA, GDPR, and other state and federal patient and data privacy laws.  This role requires a self-motivated team player who can manage multiple projects and effectively work with cross-functional teams to operationalize privacy-related compliance initiatives throughout the organization.  Some of the privacy-related initiatives that will need to be managed by this role include, but are not limited to, developing and implementing enhanced strategies for the privacy program, developing privacy related policy and procedure , monitoring compliance with applicable policies and regulations, reviewing and revising business associate agreements, conducting privacy investigation, advising on promotional strategies, and developing and conducting privacy training and education.  This role reports to the Chief Healthcare Compliance & Privacy Officer.  Minimum Education:â?¢Bachelorâ??s Degree required. JD, MPH or other advanced degree, preferred. Minimum Experience/Knowledge:â?¢5 yearsâ?? demonstrated experience in either: (1) hospital or health care setting in matters relating to privacy and confidentiality of patient health information; or (2) a law firm or regulated industry working on and providing advice relating to highly regulated matters. â?¢Demonstrated ability to understand and provide advice on state and federal regulations, and willingness to learn and stay updated on privacy laws applicable to the organization. â?¢Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work autonomously, and drive projects forward to completion.â?¢Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with diverse personalities and skill sets. â?¢Capability to effectively interact with patients in resolving privacy complaints. â?¢Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.â?¢Ability to present complex subject matter in an easily understandable way and communicate effectively across groups with varying levels of privacy knowledge. â?¢Experience implementing a HIPAA privacy program at an academic medical center of hospital system, preferred.â?¢Demonstrated understanding of health care operations, preferred. â?¢Certification in healthcare privacy or security (e.g., CHC, CHPC, and CIPP), completion of an accredited healthcare privacy or security field of study, or willingness to become certified, preferred.Required License/Certification:â?¢Fire and Safety Certification: If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only).
