Job Type: Officer of Administration Bargaining Unit: Regular/Temporary: Regular End Date if Temporary: Hours Per Week: 35 Salary Range: Commensurate with experience   Position Summary The Manager of Course Development will execute and support course development for a growing suite of rigorous academic courses offered online and in the classroom across a variety of subjects at the School of Social Work and will support initiatives related to quality assurance for course syllabi and instructional materials utilized in residential and online classes. The Manager of Course Development will work with faculty members and administrators to turn syllabi and course materials into new online and residential courses on strict deadlines, collaborate with faculty on improving or refreshing existing courses, and work on quality assurance. Responsibilities 1. Support course development and improvement Works with faculty, administration, and other online team members to develop and adapt content toward the goals and instructional objectives of the course. Depending on the needs of the instructor, may help write original content to support this process. This may include writing instructor bios, course communications, instruction lines, etc. As needed, assists with the selection of existing media and production of instructor-created media. Reviews appropriateness, sequencing, packaging and flow of course content (including text, media, interactive) for intended audience and instructional intent. Creates new course template pages Creates course visuals Edits pages and assignments in Canvas Works with the Manager of Online Campus Technologies to provide one-on-one training for faculty and associates/TAs who need help mastering specific Canvas functions   2.Project management Supports faculty in meeting course creation deadlines, including with hands-on support of creation of course pages and activities in the Canvas LMS. Manages the quality assurance process for online course sites each semester. Ensures the timely and successful launch of high-quality courses.   3.Support continuous improvement of curriculum for both online and residential courses. Thinks critically about workflow and practice, and identifies creative solutions for process improvements. Works with the Manager of Online Campus Technologies to investigate and evaluate new tools and support the launch of new technologies. Works with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the CSSW Curriculum Committee to promote quality assurance of syllabi and teaching materials utilized in both the online and residential campuses.   Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 2-4 years of related experience, required Excellent written communication skills and editing abilities Strong organizational and management abilities Ability to define and manage his/her own work processes towards specific team objectives Ability to evaluate content to determine its appropriateness for target audiences Ability to read, comprehend, analyze and interpret concepts, documents, and data Proficiency in Microsoft Word and familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and communicating effectively with project teams Demonstrated comfort with technology in education Demonstrated capacity to work with Canvas Experience with online courses Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, in order to meet with adjunct faculty based on their availability Preferred Qualifications Experience with curriculum, preferably innovative or nontraditional curricula, or content development Experience with Universal Design for Learning principles and accessibility for online courses Master's in Social Work Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran Columbia University is committed to the hiring of qualified local residents.
