Summary of Essential Job Duties: The Sunita Jain Anti-Trafficking Policy Initiative(Sunita Jain Initiative) at LMU Loyola Law School ( LLS ) is of the Loyola Social Justice Law Clinic ( LSJLC )and the LLS Anti-Racism Center ( LARC ).The Sunita Jain Initiative builds upon LSJLC's legacy of system transformation through on the ground best practices representation of trafficking survivors, and connects this clinical work to LARC's research and policy innovation, focused on anti-racism, equity and inclusion in the law. The Sunita Jain Initiative will guide the next generation of survivor advocates, to enact anti-trafficking law and policy at the local, state, and national levels that grapples with the root causes of human trafficking such as the systemic subordination of poor communities of color, further marginalized by the intersections of gender, gender identity, sexuality, disability, national origin, religion, and/or immigration status. This first of its kind initiative, housed within LLS whose mission is dedicated to the delivery of educational excellence with a deep concern for social justice, aims to overcome the myriad injustices that subvert trafficking survivors' access to self-determination and empowerment. Educational Requirements: JD with active membership in a state bar and/or graduate degree in public policy or related field Minimum Qualifications: At least five years' experience working within the anti-trafficking movement including direct work with trafficking survivors and/or litigation experience . Demonstrated ability for long-term strategic planning to create systemic impact. Commitment to and experience in serving the needs of vulnerable populations. Commitment to social justice, anti-racism, equity and inclusion. Knowledge of and ability to critically examine the structural impediments to access to justice for trafficking survivors due to intersectional subordinating factors and the operation of punitive law enforcement regimes in the human trafficking context. In-depth understanding of federal and/or state legislative processes and experience enacting policy reforms and/or appropriations including research and drafting of statutory language, regulatory comments and agency guidance. Track record in maintaining partnerships with legislators and agencies. Experience working with local, state and/or national policy coalitions Experience with movement building and/or community organizing. Commitment to and proven track record in supporting survivor leadership and engagement with diverse partners including community-based organizations, grassroots advocacy campaigns, pro bono attorneys, and government agencies to implement policy priorities. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to devise and execute communications strategies to advance policy initiatives including the delivery of written and oral presentations to diverse audiences and use of technology and social media platforms. Innovative self-starter who excels both in team collaborations and independently and can nimbly adapt to shifting priorities. Demonstrated ability to teach and supervise law students engaged in policy work. Federal Policy Director if not based in Washington, DC must be able to travel regularly to Washington DC.
