Commercial Banking provides financial solutions to businesses with annual sales generally in excess of $5 million. Our business lines are Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, Middle Market Banking, and Treasury Management & Payment Solutions.

Wells Fargo Commercial Capital

  • A market-leading provider of working capital, investment capital, trust services, and sales financing solutions that help customers optimize liquidity and grow their business through their lifecycle

Middle Market Banking

  • Services private and public companies with annual sales of $5 million to $2 billion
  • Specialized expertise across industry sectors

Treasury Management & Payment Solutions

  • Provides cash management services and digital channel capabilities for customers of Commercial Banking and Corporate & Investment Banking
  • Also serves some Consumer and Small Business Banking and Wealth and Investment Management customers, and Auto Dealer Finance partner relationships in Consumer Lending

The Role
This Bus Risk & Control Senior Associate will fulfill a front line/program role within Commercial Banking Privacy. The individual will help organize and execute upon the requirements of relevant regulations, rules, and policies - including the Privacy and Solicitation Policy - for Commercial Banking customers.

Individual Responsibilities

  • Understand the Enterprise Privacy Program and policies in order to identify and assess operational program risks as they relate to complex Commercial business units
  • Collaborate with Commercial Banking Group Privacy Leader, other Business aligned Leaders, Compliance, and the Enterprise Privacy Utility to ensure requirements of the Privacy risk management program are consistently being met by the Commercial lines of business
  • Manage review of requirements and implementation of Controls for International Data Privacy and CCPA Regulations and Policies
  • Prepare regular privacy risk reporting to Business stakeholders
  • Manage CB Privacy Community of Practice Meetings; prepare educational and awareness materials for Business stakeholder
  • Create Procedures and job aids to provide assistance to the Business with execution of privacy tasks
  • Execute Program oversight controls and tasks to ensure Business and Privacy Leaders are executing program as expected
  • Escalate elevated program risks to business, control, and IRM management   
  • Assist the business in the design and implementation of Privacy controls to mitigate program risk within the business
  • Assist the business with addressing identified Privacy risk issues and implementing corrective actions
  • Provide guidance to less experienced consultants

They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 5+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 3+ years must include direct experience in risk management demonstrated through work or military experience

Other Desired Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management with a focus on US or International Privacy (includes audit, legal, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk)
  • 6+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 3+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both
  • Working familiarity with US and International Privacy and Solicitation Laws including GDPR and CCPA
  • Working knowledge of marketing and solicitation processes, non-marketing outbound communications, and other information sharing business processes and technologies
  • Willingness to take ownership and responsibility for managing program risks and issues
  • Ability to work and influence successfully within a matrix environment and build effective business partnerships with all levels of team members
  • Ability to interact effectively and confidently with business and program management
  • Working knowledge of key enterprise risk management tools
  • Experience developing, planning, and executing risk assessment routines
  • Ability to develop strong, effective, and efficient risk reduction solutions
  • Ability to manage conflict and provide credible challenge to the business on risk- and control-related items
  • Experience in or supporting Commercial businesses
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization

Job Expectations

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
