Eaton’s Hydraulic Division is currently seeking a Senior (Compounding) Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Mountain Home, AR location.

Position Overview:

The Compounding Engineer utilizes tools for problem solving, project management and change control following Eaton’s Quality Management System (EQMS) to improve processing capabilities at the Mountain Home plant. This may include running trial compounds under the guidance of the R&D chemists at the Maumee, OH Technical Center to improve hose performance and cost-savings or dispositioning compounds that have been found to be suspect. This position directs the approval process necessary when chemicals (materials) are changed in Eaton’s hose products. This position presents a wide range of Material Science knowledge and expertise along with experience in many types of processing and testing. This position also has a vast knowledge of raw material manufacturing, supply, and a network of resources. This position supports needed activities in support of operations, new product development or customer support. The Compounding Engineer focuses on developing their skill level, building entrustment with functional groups and demonstrating a pattern of accomplishments. This position reports to the Engineering Manager at the Mountain Home plant.

In this function you will:

+ Control and approve all rubber recipes for all products manufactured at the Mountain Home plant.

+ Establish the necessary material specifications and controls to assure a quality product. This includes input on FMEA’s, Control Plans, Recipes, and other PPAP-related documents.

+ Establish best practices and standard procedures for rubber compounding, mixing, and testing to ensure global standards are being met.

+ Implement new compounds to meet new applications, to improve current applications, and to reduce cost. This also involves the rationalization of compounds to better control inventory and material utilization.

+ Develops controls to manage compound recipes and materials. This includes maintaining the compounds in a database such as Enovia.

+ Provide support and aid in the progression of ISO9001 and Eaton Quality Management System (EQMS) compliance.

+ Subject Matter Expert on Rubber Compounding. Will conduct training for all members of the plant on rubber compounding. Willing to brainstorm with team members (materials lab, production, and engineering support) to determine best practices and root cause analyses for rubber compound used in hose manufacturing.

+ Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure proper working order and troubleshoot malfunctions when necessary. Initiate and drive capital improvements as needed to support testing of compound.

+ Establish best practices for material records. Establish and maintain a log of all materials and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on all chemicals and materials used at the Mountain Home plant to comply with Eaton safety standards and other regulatory requirements.

+ Interprets customer specifications related to material properties to assure compliance.

+ Evaluate customer returns for root cause and corrective actions, utilizing formal problem-solving tools such as 8D analysis, PFMEA’s, Control plans, etc. and being able to tie this analysis back to operations standard work and product documentation

+ Champion the movement of becoming a technology-driven organization using state-of-art materials and processes to enhance our products and performance.

+ Provides feedback for further improvements to the Maumee labs, plant labs, and general plant mixing and hose operations.

+ Support the Mountain Home plant safety culture by being a champion and/or co-champion of MESH.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline

+ 3 years previous engineering work in a manufacturing environment

+ Must be legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship

+ No relocation benefit will be provided. All candidates must reside within a 50 mile radius of Mountain Home to be considered.

Preferred qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or Materials Science from an accredited institution.

+ A thorough technical knowledge of raw materials used in rubber compounding.

+ A thorough understanding of testing and evaluating compounds, and the manufacturing methods and processes.

+ Strong problem solving and project management skills.

+ 5 years’ experience formulating rubber compounds.

+ 5 years’ experience with natural rubber and EPDM materials.

+ 5 years’ experience in changing rubber specific gravity and durometer properties.

Eaton has announced it has reached an agreement to sell its Hydraulics Business to Danfoss A/S. This transaction is expected to be completed by the end of Q2 in 2021 and this position is expected to remain with the Hydraulics Business and would transfer to Danfoss A/S. upon close. The compensation and benefits that will initially be offered for this position are based on Eaton’s plans, programs and practices. If you are offered and accept this position and are actively employed by the Hydraulics Business when the transaction closes, Danfoss A/S will provide further details to employees concerning compensation and benefits at that time.
