The Technical Training Supervisor is responsible for developing and conducting Caterpillar technical training courses for internal and external customers at an expert level. This role is responsible for day-to-day business operations and supervising a team of technical trainers.

Essential Functions:
  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values-Based Leadership (VBL) tools including SLII, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Supports internal and external customer’s technical training opportunities and objectives by scheduling, facilitating, and evaluating technical courses.
  • Develops, measures, facilitates, and delivers state-of-the-art technical training programs tailored to fully complement the Company’s technical training program needs consistent with individual company’s short and long-term business plans.
  • Manages timecards, expense reports and conducts performance reviews for direct reports
  • Assists the Director of Training –ProTech with forecasting the departmental budget
  • Facilitates department safety and team meetings
  • Manages, coaches, and motivates training instructors using HOLT’s Values-Based Leadership (VBL) tools
  • Collaborates with the Director of Training –ProTech in developing strategic plans, annual business plans, team development, and team management
  • Performs highly skilled consulting for Company stores to ensure the resolution of critical technical training problems and the development of employee job skills and competencies
  • Collaborates with Technical Communicators (TCs) and other technical trainers to develop hands-on skills assessments
  • Consults with individuals throughout the organization to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and obtain an understanding of changes in policies, procedures, regulations, business initiatives, and technologies that impact training
  • Continually acquires personal training skills and learning techniques to ensure optimal retention and resources required for productive training presentation and development
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products; Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.
  • Knowledge of ProTech Billing Processes and System
  • Knowledge and skill in developing an annual business plan
  • Excellent leadership with the ability to positively motivate, manage and develop employees
  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced, high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
  • Demonstrated expert technical aptitude and understanding within assigned area of responsibility which would include, but is not limited to Diesel Engines, Electricity, Electronic Troubleshooting, Hydraulics, Transmissions, Air Conditioning, and PowerTrains
  • Expert skill and experience in the field working on and troubleshooting equipment
  • Expert skill and knowledge of Caterpillar SIS and ET software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to include formal presentation skills before small and large groups
  • Expert skill and knowledge of technical writing and training development skills
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • Knowledge of the training models and designs such as A.D.D.I.E instructional systems design
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships with multiple departments and various levels of the organization
  • Ability to complete Holt’s VBL Classes to include: DISC, POP, SLII, Conflict Resolution, and Influencing, and successfully apply the tools

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum ten years of technical experience working on Caterpillar equipment required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Caterpillar Certified Training: Caterpillar Instructor Accreditation Program (CIAP), Tier 4 Interim, Tier 4 Final, and Electronic Troubleshooting (26679) preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position directs and supervises the Training Instructors. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; coaching and development; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Travel:
  • Up to 20% monthly, overnight travel may be required, but not limited to twice per month

Physical Requirements:
  • This role frequently communicates with others, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers
  • This position involves extended periods in a stationary position; additionally, occasional movement inside the office to access office machinery, file cabinets, etc.
  • Occasionally lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 20lbs
Work Environment:
  • This job is generally performed 50% in an office environment and 50% outside; Exposure to noise, dust, grease, fumes, gases, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions
