Kelly Education is seeking qualified candidates for a DIRECT HIRE Financial Aid Specialist opportunity in Asheville, North Carolina. Working as a member of the Financial Aid Office, the Financial Aid Specialist will act as the first point of contact for students and families, triaging communication as appropriate.  Specifically, duties associated with the advising of students on all matters concerning financial aid. This position will be "the face of the financial aid office" and be expected to exhibit exceptional customer service. 

This position will work proactively with members of the financial aid office, as well as other integral offices on campus, identifying ways of providing the highest level of customer support to our students and their families thereby striving to enhance the student experience.  Key priorities are to accurately process student documents and finalize files.  This position will also support key office functions and responsibilities.  



  • Answer phones, emails, and other communications.
  • Financial aid representative with various offices and constituents, both on and off-campus, to help determine and resolve matters pertaining to the student’s enrollment, account, and academic concerns that may impact eligibility for financial aid. 
  • Counsel students regarding financial aid processes and policies. 
  • Review students’ financial aid status to determine eligibility and direct students on how to finalize their documents and processes. 
  • Assist the Director of Financial Aid in administering financial aid processes which may include (but not limited to) ISIR import, verification processes, eligibility determinations, processing outside scholarships. 
  • Assist the Director of Financial Aid in formulating and developing financial aid services, policies, and procedures in compliance with the US Department of Education and NC State Education Assistance Authority. 
  • Verify various documents and maintain student information to determine eligibility for financial aid using PowerFAIDS and Jenzabar EX.
  • Under the guidance of the Director of Financial Aid, administer the NC Need-Based Scholarship program.
  • Manages the verification process with vendor partner KHEAA.
  • Under the oversight of the Director, maintain and administer various programs, processes, and policies for the WWC study away program, Americorps, outside scholarships, transfer monitoring, exit counseling, etc.
  • Assists the Director of Financial Aid with the College’s efforts to ensure compliance with federal regulations and audit requirements as specified by the US Department of Education, the NC State Education Assistance Authority, and other reporting entities.
  • Assists in office functions which may include mailing packets, reconciling data, filing documents, maintaining student files.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree required in counseling, education, finance, accounting, public administration, or communications.
  • One to two years experience working in a financial aid office and demonstrated working knowledge of the following financial aid systems/programs, COD, NSLDS, NC RDS, CFNC, ELM
  • One to two years of demonstrated experience working in customer service positions.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Excel 


  • Three years or more experience working in a financial aid office
  • One to two years experience working with PowerFAIDS and Jenzabar EX
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
