Lecturer on Contemporary Japan University of California San Diego The Program in Japanese Studies ( http://japan.ucsd.edu/ ) within the Institute of Arts and Humanities ( http://iah.ucsd.edu/ ) at the University of California San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for a part-time lecturer position in Japanese Studies for one course in Spring 2022 to teach Japanese 190: Selected Topics in Contemporary Japanese Studies. This is an upper division course required for Japanese Studies majors. Appointment will be part-time with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. The successful candidate is expected to work with existing faculty members to develop the course. The syllabus will need to be reviewed and approved before instruction begins. Please submit a CV, one set of student course evaluations, and a teaching statement. Please describe any teaching strategies you currently use or plan to use to foster a diverse and inclusive learning experience, and to enable all students to excel and fully participate in the learning process. The cover letter should include a paragraph on the proposed special topic and a short description of the material to be covered. Review of applications will begin June 18 and continue until the position is filled. Salary is commensurate with teaching experience and is based on University of California salary scales. The Program in Japanese Studies coordinates a variety of campus offerings related to the culture, history, political economy, and language of Japan and offers students the opportunity to major or minor in Japanese Studies.
