Sr. EEG Technologist EEG Lab Department Description The Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratories at UCDMC consist of the three units: EEG, Sleep Disorders Center. and EMG. Each unit Is managed jointly by the Medical Director and the Nurse Practice Manager. THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY Responsibilities The Senior EEG Technologist performs routine and complex EEG/Evoked Potential procedures: Beside monitoring, In-lab monitoring, WADA. Ambulatory, cortical function mapping, Long Term Video Monitoring. SPECT scan recordings and intra-operative monitoring procedures, on patients of various ages. The Senior EEG Technologist performs EEG procedures on Hospital inpatients and outpatients. The Senior Technologist assists in training EEG Technologists as needed and provides assistance and technical guidance to the Fellow/Resident Physicians with respect to the various functions in the Laboratory. Required Qualifications Minimum 3-years recent EEG Technologist experience in a hospital/clinical setting. Registered EEG Technologist (R.EEG.T) certified by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists (ABRET) or Registered EEG Technologist (R.E.T.) certified by the Canadian Board of Registration of EEG. Technologists (CBRET). Current CPR/BLS Certification. Experience applying basic principles and practices of neurodiagnostic technology to novel techniques and develop expertise in performing complex neurodiagnostic procedures. Experience measuring and accurately applying disc electrodes to those predetermined areas utilizing knowledge of the International 10/20 system. Knowledge of electrode placement to accurately monitor physiological artifacts and apply additional electrodes. Experienced exercising discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained and a professional, respectful hospital. clinic, or laboratory environment exists at all times. Experience organizing and prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely and efficient manner, particularly when there are changes in workload or assignments. Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations, and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or for whom English may be a second language. Problem-solving skills to independently define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve problems; create viable solution and take the action necessary to implement them; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to appropriately seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached. Knowledge of medical records sufficient to establish and maintain filing system which meet the accessibility and storage needs of the Laboratory, and which comply with all pertinent laws, regulations, and HIPPA guidelines regarding confidentiality, maintenance, and provision to others. Medical terminology to accurately transcribe physician's orders. Working knowledge of departmental and system policies and procedures. Ability to efficiently use computer system to retrieve pertinent patient information through the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Filing skills to maintain logs and files of information in alphabetical, chronological, an/or numerical order, such that it is current and easily retrievable. Special Requirements Must participate with the rotating on-call schedule for weekdays/weekends and holidays. All health practitioners have mandatory reporting responsibilities when an adult (or a minor who meets special circumstances as described in UCOMC Hospital P&P 1408) presents at UCDMC as an outpatient or inpatient from any source and if a person presents for treatment of injuries related to domestic violence: or if one has knowledge of or observes a child who one knows or reasonably suspects Is the victim of child abuse; or if one has knowledge of, or reasonably suspects that an elder or a dependent adult is the victim of elder/dependent adult abuse. Non-health practitioners who suspect that an individual is a victim of abuse as outlined above, are strongly encouraged to report their suspicions to a health practitioner.
