Sunrun’s legal team is passionate about managing risk while working towards solutions that foster our mission to build a planet run by the sun. As Sunrun’s Senior Counsel, Employment, you will be responsible for a very broad portfolio of employment-related advice and counsel, pre-litigation, litigation, and regulatory matters in numerous jurisdictions across the country. Candidates should have strong attention to detail, be execution-oriented, have a strong eye for business, and be the ultimate teammate. This position will report to the Head of Litigation.

  • Provide legal advice and support to Human Resources and other internal teams across the company regarding employment-related matters
  • Lead outside counsel in devising and implementing litigation and regulatory strategy
  • Develop and implement scalable solutions for litigation and other challenges
  • Advocate our ethical culture and core values across all departments and markets
  • Demonstrate personal integrity, respect, and partnership in the performance of all job responsibilities
  • Stay up-to-date on new and evolving regulatory requirements


  • 7-10 years of practicing in the government, at a leading law firm, or company; some in-house experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience representing companies in sophisticated employment matters, government investigations, subpoena responses, as well as handling outside counsel, budgets, and developing and implementing litigation strategy
  • Extensive experience responding to regulatory inquiries and handling a wide variety of employment-related litigation and pre-litigation disputes, including arbitrations and mediations, in a diverse range of courts and administrative bodies
  • Experience building and leading teams, managing people, and comfort providing feedback to individuals at various levels of seniority
  • Niche knowledge or experience in labor and employment law, and experience with California labor and employment law
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills, with a strong ability to translate concepts into clear steps and communicate them to partners
  • Highly motivated, with the aim to work independently, plan and accomplish goals, lead and prioritize projects with deadlines, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • A consensus builder with great communication skills, who can effectively and efficiently collaborate and establish relationships with multiple functions and collaborators throughout the organization to get needed information and solve sophisticated problems
  • J.D. and membership in at least one U.S. state bar
