Position Summary:
Responsible for providing quality patient care to patients 65 years and older. Assists with patient visits for an outpatient Senior Health Clinic by performing patient check-ins, vitals, lab draws, carry out physician orders for treatments, and assist physicians with procedures.  

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities, and seeks opportunities to improve department and inter-department processes.
  • Serves as a resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contributes to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care.
  • Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety of staff and patients.
  • Maintains unit records and audits charts assuring necessary documentation is completed
  • Administers medication and other therapies as ordered by physician per clinic guidelines
  • Follows through the process necessary to perform lab and procedural tests including reporting test results to physician and assuring patient receives test results as directed by physician
  • Is proficient and skilled in assessing and addressing the age specific needs of the adult aged 65 and  older
  • Patient age and risk factors are taken into consideration when caring for or performing procedures on our patients.  
  • Consistently communicates to physicians and other staff members any pertinent patient information received
  • Assess patient’s response to procedures and communicates to physician
  • Effectively and safely instructs patients in follow-up care within guidelines established by physician
  • Records pertinent information in logs maintained for OSHA, CLIA, sample drugs, and Quality Control
  • Recognizes and reports unsafe acts or conditions
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the principles of patient privacy and security of protected health information
     

Qualifications

License/Certification/Registration:

  • Current Texas LVN licensure
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)

Education:

  • Graduate of a vocational nursing school

Experience:

  • Three (3) yrs experience highly preferred in medical office environment catering to geriatric patients, i.e. physician’s office
  • Must have good phlebotomy skills and knowledge of medication used with chronic diagnoses

Special Qualifications:

  • Clinically proficient in vocational nursing skills, demonstrating knowledge of the development needs of geriatric patients.
  • Able to deal tactfully with patients, families, physicians, and employees.
