Client Automotive Refinishing is currently hiring a new Quality Engineer, an addition to staff. This role is a Direct Hire.
The Quality Engineer serves as the customer’s point of contact for quality concerns, as well as will drive quality information and improvement throughout the organization. The incumbent will develop, implement, and improve quality plans, programs, procedures, and systems using statistical analyses, lean manufacturing concepts, and six sigma tools and analyses. They will be the liaison between Sourcing and Design Engineers on any of the suppliers’ changes due to manufacturing issues or supplier changes, and the point person leading investigations of Quality Problems/ Reports using 5 why, 8D and other customer-supplied forms.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Investigates problems and develops disposition and corrective actions for recurring discrepancies.
Recommends corrective actions, dispositions and modifications.
Interact with the customer via email or telephone to collect data relating to quality issues.
Develop and implement program quality plans, programs, and procedures using statistical quality control statistics, lean manufacturing concepts, and ELS tools and analyses.
Lead and/or participate in quality process improvement projects.
Ensures that performance and quality products conform to established company and regulatory standards.
Communicate the voice of the customer throughout the organization. Track trends and report on findings.
Interact as needed with Sales, Facilities, Manufacturing, and divisional technical resources to obtain information pertinent to understanding and resolving customer quality issues.
Responsible for claim entry process from initial entry to credit generation, corrective action letter follow-up, and samples to a fault location.
Perform material testing and diagnosis/recommendations for purchased products exhibiting either poor quality or poor performing characteristics.
Conduct all laboratory work in accordance with established and understood workplace safety principles and practices.
Provide customer requested documentation of claim details.
Follow established process for handling customer deductions forwarded by accounts receivable.
Serve as neutral party between customer and organization in claim investigation.
Provide training when needed to both team members and external personnel.
Facilitate the CAR process with the process owner.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
4-7 years technical experience needed, automotive a strong plus (Automotive not required, but need to understand and be used to an environment that supports 0-mistake, Automotive-Perfection; Some type of regulatory industry experience required).
Demonstrated experience in developing and/or updating control plans and FMEA’s.
Strong written, verbal and telephone communication skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, and function specific software.
Strong attention to detail & organizational skills.
Experience with researching and issuing corrective actions (If chosen to interview, will be expected to walk through how you, as Quality Engineer, would, and have handled 3-legged or 5-why, and/or an 8d corrective action).
