Job Description:

Parsons has been a leader in the planning, design and delivery of transportation infrastructure across the world for more than 75 years.  We are looking for a highly experienced project manager with strong client relationships to add to our Connected Communities team in Western Canada.  Our team is focused on helping our provincial, regional, and municipal clients expand and improve their transportation systems through innovative solutions to their tough planning and design challenges.

Position Overview:

The Senior Project Manager: Transportation Planning will assist in advancing the growth of our broader team by taking a technical leadership role in executing our business plan in the areas of sustainable and multimodal transportation planning. S/he will be responsible for overseeing and managing the technical component of our transportation planning portfolio including master transportation planning, corridor transportation plans, transit planning, and active transportation and will coordinate with other technical disciplines across the organization. This position requires 15+ years of transportation planning experience across multimodal environments.


  • Lead the technical components of large complex studies involving transportation modelling and forecasting to support transit and transportation planning projects
  • Manage, coach, motivate and provide leadership for staff to provide high-quality services and innovative solutions to complex planning challenges involving multiple stakeholders
  • Provide effective and efficient management of relevant day-to-day operations, including scheduling, assigning and reviewing work to achieve project objectives and outcome measures
  • Assist in business development activities and undertake leadership roles in proposal preparation including assistance in developing project methodology, work programs, schedules, budgets
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation of activity for clients and project management and promoting technical excellence and quality assurance of project tasks and deliverables.  
  • Maintain an awareness of trends, developments and advancements in the transportation planning field to retain technical competency, and to provide state-of-the-art services and advice to our clients
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.


  • University degree in Urban Planning or Geography with a focus on transportation
  • Professional Planner Registration with the Planning Institute of BC is preferred
  • 15+ years of transportation planning experience
  • Strong report writing and oral communication skills
  • Ability to lead junior transportation engineers and planners achieve success in the area of transportation planning and data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in training, mentoring, motivating, leading and supervising a team of highly qualified professional staff.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to lead / facilitate internal and external workshops, stakeholder meetings, and public events.
  • Experience with transportation planning, modelling and data practices in the local region and good understanding of transportation issues and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the various municipal, regional, and Provincial policies, legislation and regulations related to transportation / land use planning, and evolving industry trends is highly desirable.
