Job Type/Schedule: This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.  The position may sometimes require emergency off-hours work on nights or weekends to resolve infrastructure issues and meet time-sensitive deadlines. Department Name/Job Location: This position is in the Department of Investments.  The position is located at 101 South Hanley.  The position will have no out-of-town travel requirements (but optional opportunities may be available).  In-town commuting to the main office in Clayton is generally expected during the business week.  Essential Functions: POSITION SUMMARY: Will assist Washington University Investment Management Company’s (WUIMC) Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with all aspects of maintaining and improving the mission-critical information infrastructure for the university’s endowment investment program. Duties include administrating external systems, developing and maintaining internal code and systems, managing data infrastructure and analytics, developing integrations between system APIs, performing ad-hoc data analysis, and collaborating with coworkers. This title will report directly to the CTO and will shadow or back-up the CTO on all responsibilities. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and maintain internal systems, such as BI/analytics, data infrastructure (e.g. data warehouse and pipelines), microservices/backends, API integrations, user experience interfaces, and more. These tasks generally involve development in SQL, Python, AWS, JavaScript, and Tableau. Manage external (vendor-managed) systems and evaluate new external systems. This may involve configuring settings, updating data,  interfacing with vendor support personnel, adjusting user interfaces, and more. Perform administrative tasks associated with infrastructure development and maintenance, such as project management and documentation. Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand their user stories, collect feedback and specifications, and provide updates. Liaison with WUSTL IT when needed. Assist with general technical issues, hardware, etc. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related discipline (e.g. math or engineering), plus three years of experience working in investment finance AND/OR Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related discipline (e.g. Financial Engineering), plus three years of working experience in a role that involved development, coding, and/or data analytics. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in computer science or data science and 5+ years of related experience in applying those disciplines in an investment finance setting, especially institutional finance. Strong problem-solving skills with an innate desire to make things better. Excellent oral and written communication skills, both on the business and technical sides, and ability to clearly communicate complex issues to all audiences. Ability to work independently, be organized, meet deadlines, take initiative, understand priorities, generate documentation, and deliver high-quality work. Maturity and integrity to work with confidential information. Broad understanding of investment finance topics, especially in institutional finance. Data analytics and business intelligence experience, especially with Tableau. Experience designing and maintaining relational databases and data warehouses, especially with SQL and Snowflake. Experience working with data transfer technologies, e.g. data pipelines, REST APIs, JDBC/ODBC interfaces, webhooks, etc. Experience developing in Python, SQL, JavaScript, and Git. Understanding of information security best practices and protocols. Familiarity with AWS or other cloud-native development platforms. Familiarity with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Slack. Salary Range: Compensation will be commensurate with the importance of this position and its impact on WUIMC’s continued growth and success.
