Lilly is designing and building a new state of the art Parenteral, Device Assembly, and Packaging Facility located at the Research Triangle Park (RTP) in North Carolina.  This is an exciting opportunity to help build and operate a state-of-the-art manufacturing site and Quality System from the ground up. 


Position Detailed Description:


The primary focus of the Systems Engineer - Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is to provide integration between business resources and IDS, influencing the processes, tools and operating models. The role will support the implementation and maintenance of MES applications/solutions and will support customers by implementing value-driven solutions.


The role will have a critical part in the implementation and future maintenance of the MES program at the RTP site. It will gain an understanding of the MES system and its integration with other solutions. The MES Engineer evaluates and translates functional requirements into technical requirements, resolves challenging technical issues via trouble tickets and/or change requests, produces and maintains project documentation as required, and exchanges technical information with colleagues and onshore/offshore technical resources.


Some regional and international travel may be required to meet with business partners and develop key working relationships as part of a global functions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of PMX, become an expert in the PMX technology and its integration with other solutions. Learn the manufacturing business processes, applications, tools, etc. Understand how the MES system and tools integrate with other critical systems like SAP and Process Automation.

  • Support site implementation activities, integration to other site functions, ensure site preparation activities, and site communications.

  • Supports and/or contributes to the design, development, and delivery of end user training and/or procedures

  • Assures technology deliverables adhere to company and regulatory policies.

  • Assures technology best practices include use of feedback and monitoring to enhance the state of control of delivered solutions.

  • Uses standardized processes for requirements definition, analysis, design, construct, and test activities.

  • Modifies existing systems or integrates packaged systems with existing infrastructure to meet business requirements.

  • Work with site business area and leadership, IT Architects, MES architects, and Data Analytics architects to implement the PMX solution to most effectively meet business needs.

  • Work with IDS groups like GS IDS, GIS Basis (infrastructure), to support delivery of infrastructure for PMX solutions to our enterprise.

  • Work with business area leadership, IT Architects, and Enterprise IT architecture on cross-organizational issues.

  • Promote process improvement and innovation to drive business process optimization

  • Adhere to corporate computer systems validation policies and procedures


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Life Science, Computer Science or a related field

  • Strong experience on Manufacturing sites, in particular in Manufacturing and Warehouse operations or logistics

  • Experience working globally across organizational levels and cultures

  • Good understanding of MES tools, including configuration, integration with other solutions, and how it is used to support the business processes

  • Good understanding of MES reporting tools (e.g. L&L, BO Universe)

  • Strong understanding of complex business processes to enable key area stakeholders to meet business results, including complex implementations into new areas of the plants and leadership in the projects supporting the network
