    Applied Materials, USA is looking for an experienced “Senior Linux Engineer” to join our world class IT organization.

    In this role you will lead our wide scale Linux VDI and EDA IT Infrastructure (on-prem and cloud) which includes VDI, HPC, Electronics Design Apps and will take part in global IT projects across Applied Materials.

    Job Description:

    • Architect, Develop, Implement and support Linux VDI and EDA IT solutions in On Prem and Cloud Infrastructure
    • Understand requirements from the Design community.
    • Work collaboratively to develop, support, debug both in-house and commercial EDA tools and flows.
    • Lead EDA IT Projects, Infrastructure changes and Linux VDI release activities.
    • Liaise with other IT teams and vendors for problem resolution and continuous improvements.
    • Handle Tier 3/4 issues and escalations within the Linux VDI and EDA Infrastructure.
    • Identify and Implement enhancements, feature upgrades, and version upgrades.
    • Identify and Implement solutions around Linux VDI Security.
    • Document Solution architecture, deployment, configuration around Linux VDI and EDA IT Infrastructure.
    • Identifies BKM’s for integrated solution design and standards; Keeps abreast of technologies in the market and performance technology evaluations, as required. Works with multiple vendors for high quality resources and competitiveness.
    • Completes root cause analysis of outages or incident trends, recommend preventative actions.
    • Train team members in product functionality, development and testing guidelines, tools and methodologies.
    • Communication to management for recommendation and status updates.


    • 8-10 years of experience in IT with following areas of knowledge.
    • Experience with multi-site on-prem and in cloud hybrid software and hardware deployments.
    • Strong Linux operating systems and network storage system administration and trouble shooting skills.
    • Must have advanced ability to analyze, design and architect complex IT systems.
    • Strong knowledge in RedHat (or derivative) and Ubuntu administration and problem solving.
    • Azure and AWS Cloud experience.
    • Understanding of Redhat and Ubuntu OS including processes, files, memory management, I/O systems, networking services and protocols (eg: TCP/IP, SSL, FTP, Telnet, LDAP, etc)
    • Ability to design, promote, and implement change control and configuration management, patch management, high availability systems, structured design and support methodologies.
    • Linux desktop environments such as Gnome, KDE, VNC, NX, etc.
    • NFS file sharing and the Linux automounter.
    • Strong scripting knowledge (Bash, Python, PowerShell) and automation of repetitive administration tasks.
    • Enterprise monitoring and alerting tools.
    • Batch queuing software such as LSF, Grid, etc.
    • Experience with high-performance servers and associated high-performance networks.
    • Experience with Ansible, or Chef or Puppet
    • Experience with DevOps environment and improve developer workflow, increasing scalability, Continuous Integration (CI), and Continues Development (CD).
    • Experience with VMware ESXi, DRS capabilities, Storage migration, vmotion, etc.
    • Experience with Security vulnerabilities remediation.
    • Expertise with Redhat satellite server and Ubuntu Landscape.
    • Experience with Jfrog, Jira, Bitbucket, Jenkins, GIT, Kubernetes, Docker.
    • Good domain knowledge in Networking, Storage and DC Infrastructure.
    • Experience with Nvidia vGPU solutions.
    • Knowledge of commercial CAE software such as Ansys and ESI products a plus.
    • Experience with software groups is a plus.
    • Cisco, HPE, DELL server hardware experience is a plus.
    • Must be organized with a strong ability to deliver tasks on time, manage multiple efforts and be able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Very detail oriented with troubleshooting, customer server and communication skills.
    • Able to learn and use internal software systems.
    • Redhat certification and Cloud certification
    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
