Position Summary:

Alion is seeking a skilled, knowledgeable, and highly motivated Software Engineer within the Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE)-Alion Program in support of the Joint Staff J7 (JS J7) Deputy Director Joint Training (DD JT).

Background:

The JS J7 Team maintains an order of battle management system in support of JS J7’s Joint Live Virtual Constructive (JLVC) simulation training environment.

The process by which force structure data is developed within this order of battle management system is complex. It does not follow a unilateral rule set and the completeness and accuracy of the source data varies. The current method of force structure development employs multiple templates and spread sheets requiring highly detailed, rote, manual touch labor that is susceptible to human error. 

This Software Engineer position will support the modernization and automation of current force structure data development workflows as well as larger DD JT Future Data Services development efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

In this position you will:

  • Learn and participate in the current force structure data development process to better understand how to improve current workflows.
  • Advise Data, JLVC, and Software Development Team Leads on modernization and automation of the force structure development process and its relation to larger DD JT Future Data Services.
  • Develop force structure data workflows that support DD JT ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) data pipeline requirements.
  • Develop force structure data workflows that support the DoD’s Data Centricity Goals of: Visible, Accessible, Understandable, Linked, Trustworthy, Interoperable, and Secure.
  • Support development of a data-centric architecture that integrates authoritative data. sources, allows rapid integration of new data sources, and enables JS J7, DD JT software applications (planning tools, M&S, AI, etc.) to leverage the data.
  • Support development of software that is loosely coupled to the data.
  • Ensure the availability, continuity and security of data and information pertaining to the organization.
  • Regularly provides guidance to less-experienced developers.
  • On-site support required.  Must Interface with customers on a daily basis.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Science or similar and 2-4 years of relevant experience. May consider years of experience in military or private industry in lieu of degree or technical certificate.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:  

            •  
  • Experience with any of the following databases: PostgreSQL, MSSQL, NoSQL Graph Databases.
  • Experience with Geographical Information System (GIS) databases.
  • Experience with any of the following languages: Java, C#, C, C++.
  • Experience with any of the following web platforms: ASP, JSP, AJAX, XML, CSS, JavaScript, Extensible Java Script (ExtJs), WSS 3.0/MOSS 2007, CGI, Web Services, Apache Tomcat, and Jason.
  • Experience with the following Operating Systems: Windows 10, Redhat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience with Agile Development Methodologies.
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Experience with Confluence, JIRA, BitBucket, Git.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment is required.
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a Secret clearance.

Certifications

Must have a DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification or be qualified to attain one within three months of hire (SSCP, CCNA-Sec, GSEC, Security+ CE, Network Cert).
