Senior Database Administrator (Postgres/Greenplum) (**Job Number:** 2108873 )

**What You Will Be Doing:**

As a Penske Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for leading a global DBA team to create and implement fully functional Cloud databases. You will be responsible for delivering on multiple medium to large sized enterprise wide initiatives/projects concurrently. You will also get an opportunity to work with various Developers, Architects and Infrastructure Engineers (Web/Cloud/Network) to shape the data architecture and solutions of the organization, including determining the best way to organize and display information in company databases. You will lead meetings to discuss the progress of new systems, updates/technical defects, database maintenance, and present plans for future initiatives. You will also ensure data and database security throughout the organization and participate in 24 by 7 support of our operations.

In addition to advanced knowledge of Postgres, candidates must have advanced knowledge of databases such as MySQL, Aurora, and Dynamo DB, Greenplum, and Redshift.

Finally, it would be a plus if the candidate possessed the following:

+ AWS experience or certifications (Solutions Architect Associate, Developer Associate or SysOps Admin Associate)

+ Experience Linux/Unix shell scripting

+ Experience working with Oracle Databases

+ Experience working with Timeseries Databases

+ Experience in Geospatial

This position can sit out of our corporate headquarters in Reading, PA or our IT Center in Tampa, FL.

**Penske Responsibilities:**

+ Act as the primary contact and lead database support associate for multiple critical applications and processes, resolving customer issues in a timely manner

+ Act as the liaison between software engineers, business users, architects, and the database team

+ Participate in regular capacity planning and contribute to the overall database roadmap

+ Design databases and monitor/support database performance across multiple platforms

+ Plan and perform database upgrades, migrations, backups, and setup/support recovery efforts

+ Collaborate with product owners, software engineers and quality assurance on testing applications and database performance

+ Ensure and enforce appropriate enterprise-wide database and data security

+ Support application deployments and regular disaster recovery tests

+ Proactively identify issues and escalate in a timely manner

+ Be the owner of database standards and best practices

+ Follow-up with appropriate vendors on open tickets and issues

+ Participate in 24 by 7 support of operations including on-call rotation

+ Help with SQL query tuning and triaging application performance issues

+ Perform root cause analysis of issues and communicate to appropriate stakeholders

+ Assign projects and review deliverables from onshore and offshore junior DBA’s

+ Provide constructive input to department management regarding team members assigned to project

+ Conduct new hire interviews

**Penske Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or equivalent years of software development experience required

+ 10 years of hands-on DBA experience including database design and implementation required

+ 7 years of experience working with database technologies such as Oracle /MySQL required

+ 5 years of experience in data modeling and profiling required

+ Experience using programming languages/workflows such as Shell Scripting (BASH, KSH), Python, AWS (Chef, ansible, Json, Cloud Formation, Terraform, Jenkins), Kubernetes preferred

+ Database certifications preferred

+ Strong experience in building and supporting databases on-premise and cloud for both physical and virtual environments

+ Strong experience in independently configuring and supporting multiple enterprise-wide complex databases

+ Strong experience in leading mid-sized teams and managing 24 by 7 schedules with set SLAs

+ Strong experience in database performance tuning, clustering, capacity planning, automated backup/recovery, and disaster recovery procedures

+ Knowledge of supporting data warehouses, data marts, and operation data store architecture and solutions

+ Good understanding of networking concepts applicable to database support and monitoring.

+ Strong problem solving and analytical skills

+ Ability to effectively handle multiple projects and assignments simultaneously in a cross-functional team environment

+ Solid written and oral communication skills; ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language

+ Ability to work independently and direct work to other team members

+ Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
