Job Summary

Amentum is seeking a Mechanical/Electrical Technician III for our 1st shift industrial maintenance team in Greenville, SC! Typical work schedule is 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM; hours may vary based on business demand. Holiday hours as needed to support production.

The Mechanical/Electrical Technician III is responsible for providing an intermediate level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventive maintenance on the mechanical equipment in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot pumps, bearings, blowers, fans, gearboxes, air handlers and other equipment as required. Perform all aspects of preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on all facility-related industrial systems including, but not limited to: HVAC, pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor and/or R.O. systems and overhead cranes.
  • Maintain, improve, and participate in developing control systems, programming ladder logic / PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Wago, GE, MicroLogix, ControlLogix, PLC-5) and HMI. Works with Allen Bradley controls and instrumentation such as thermocouples and transducers, as well as primary voltages up to and including 480v.
  • Identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair heating and ventilation equipment, pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems; draglines; conveyors; overhead cranes; machining centers; and robotic.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and perform required preventative maintenance actions such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and repair blowers and fans.
  • Troubleshoot and repair commercial doors, including those made by Rytek, DoorMan, Mega Door, DynaCo Doors, and similar manufacturers.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and control circuits from 24v up to and including 480V AC, electro-mechanical test devices, instrumentation devices, PLCs / ladder logic controllers, and variable frequency drives as necessary.
  • Calibrate instrumentation equipment and controls for optimum performance.
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair basic electrical issues.
  • Safely operate fork-lifts, hoists and cranes. Utilize safe rigging and lifting techniques.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical systems control and operating systems as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Respond and provide service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.
  • Recommend measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Safely perform functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.
  • Operate various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.
  • Operate a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
  • Maintain a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Three years of experience performing mechanical maintenance on industrial manufacturing process/production equipment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have the ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.
  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.
  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:
  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or technical certification in industrial mechanical, electrical, HVAC/R, manufacturing technology, or a related technical program.
  • Experience maintaining a Fanuc robotics automated production line, including specialized hydraulic presses, and driven conveyor systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting CNC machine tools, included but not limited to Mazak, Heller, Masco, IMPCO, Rosama and Toyoda.
  • Experience troubleshooting robotic systems such as Fanuc, ABB, etc.
  • Experience with alignments and timing machines using precision calibration tools.
  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing pumps, motors, gearboxes, supply and exhaust fans, power transmission components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience using measurement tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, various type gauges, and calibers to set tolerances to OEM specifications.
  • Experience performing pipefitting, welding, fabrication and millwright related work.
  • Experience using a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
