Position Description

The Enterprise Software Solutions department at Argonne National Laboratory invites you to join the team developing and supporting the Laboratory’s central software services. We are currently seeking an experienced Product Owner to act as primary interface between business process owners/stakeholders and Agile scrum development teams. The role includes active engagement in producing the vision and roadmap for the product supported. Our ideal candidate is customer-centric, passionate, growth-oriented, and experienced at managing and communicating with different stakeholders.

  • Work with all business process owners and stakeholders to gather requirements into a compelling product vision and a quantified, flexible and executable roadmap. Be able to communicate the vision and roadmap to different audiences. Continuously refine and adapt the roadmap to changing priorities.
  • Maintain and order a well-groomed product backlog for Agile scrum development teams based on a balance of business priorities, technical dependencies/restrictions, and product vision represented in the roadmap.
  • Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria ensuring your Agile teams have a thorough understanding.
  • Determining what features will be in the product release and facilitating the scrum mater and team engagement during sprints.
  • Function as a liaison between business users, functional subject matter experts, systems analysts and technical developers. 
  • Work alongside product manager and development team.
  • Maintain a working operational and technical knowledge of product supported.
  • Keep abreast of Agile scrum best practices and seek to implement them within your team.
  • Represents scrum teams in front of executive sponsors, business process owners and stakeholders.
  • Report on progress for initiatives and day-to-day work.  

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of Agile scrum software development life cycle
  • Prior experience work experience in Agile scrum product owner or project manager
  • Strong service orientation, with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a customer-focused service environment
  • Ability to be highly responsive, meet demanding deadlines, and prioritize a large number of diverse projects
  • Combine sharp analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with exceptional communication and time management capabilities to ensure the delivery of the highest quality products
  • Knowledge of personnel and project management principles and tools
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including the ability to initiate and foster collaborative relationships
  • Skill in negotiation and the ability to achieve designated product vision
  • Skill in implementing change control process and recommending addition, expansion, or discontinuance of scope to ensure successful completion of the development
  • Ability to guide team to produce secure, reliable, and extendable code
  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork
  • Preferred degree in Project Management or Computer Science

This role can be hired at one of two levels, and the requirements for each are as follows:

  • PT3: Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of experience, or equivalent
  • PT4: Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of experience, or equivalent
