Research Technician II

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Prepare biologic samples including plasma, serum, urine, lysates of cultured cells, and homogenates of tissues from human subjects and laboratory animals for the mass spectrometry analysis of amino acids, acylcarnitines, organic acids, and other metabolites
  • Prepare tissue homogenates using a TissueLyser and/or Polytron
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of materials and supplies for performance of duties
  • Prepare and keep inventory of reagents and solutions, including standard and calibrator stocks, quality control samples, and pH-adjusted buffers
  • Receive, store, and maintain organization of biological specimens
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Dispose of the biohazardous and chemical waste
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

 

 

Education/Training:

 

Work requires a bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry or chemistry or other directly related scientific field.  Analytical chemistry degree is preferred.

 

Experience/Skills:

 

  • Work requires one year of research experience, ideally in quantitative, biological mass spectrometry.
  • Knowledge of analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry, and metabolism is preferred
  • Must be able to follow SOP and work effectively and independently in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment
  • Strong attention to detail including record keeping coupled with organizational skills
  • Must be able to safely handle chemical reagents and biohazardous materials
  • Experience with metabolomics or proteomics would be a plus 
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
