The Medical Laboratory Technician performs tests and procedures in one or more areas of the clinical laboratory. The Medical Laboratory Technician is accountable for accurate results, the proper use of quality control materials and evaluation of those results.

·  You will demonstrate skill and knowledge in principles and routine procedures, interpret and respond appropriately according to policies and practices.

·  You will consult Laboratory Supervisor / Technical Manager or more experienced technologist when necessary to make final decisions on any issue pertaining to the laboratory.

·  You will organize, plan, and schedule workload to achieve efficiency and report results on a timely basis according to patient needs.

·  You will practice prescribed methods of collection, specimen and patient identification when receiving or collecting specimens.

·  You will performs daily maintenance procedures on equipment as required, assist in troubleshooting of equipment as necessary to insure proper operations for high quality test performance. Restock work area with supplies and reagents. Follow lab policy for receiving and dating supplies. Maintain awareness of supply stock and informs appropriate personnel of supply shortages before they are depleted.

·  You will adjust when necessary to increase workloads and stressful situations as they occur, maintaining professional demeanor and cooperative partnership with others.

·  You will perform and record results of quality control, documents corrective actions when results are not within defined limits. Perform CAP proficiency specimens as required. Participate in data collection for performance improvement indicators.

·  You will maintain a neat, well-kept work area; practice infection control, (i.e., hand washing and wearing personal protective equipment, for the protection of patient and self). 

Qualifications

 

Position Requirements:

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration:  Must be currently registered as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP   

  • Education:  Requires Associates degree plus completion of a NAACLS approved MLT program

  • Experience: Prefer hospital laboratory experience
