Overview

JOB SUMMARY: This position serves as a physician extender on the psychiatry consult service. Consult clinicians work independently under the supervision of the psychiatrist to complete risk assessments, comprehensive first evaluations for patients requiring IVC's, and complete appropriate legal documentation to ensure proper compliance in the involuntary commitment process. Clinicians staff cases with psychiatrists providing an additional clinical perspective to the psychiatrist's treatment recommendation. Clinicians assist in responding to Behavioral Emergency Response Team codes when called throughout the hospital. Clinicians gather collateral information from natural and outpatient supports and assist the psychiatrists in clinical decision making to determine the appropriate level of needed mental health treatment. They provide psychiatric and substance abuse assessments, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and referral to inpatient facilities. Other clinical interventions/services including supportive counseling are provided as requested at the discretion of the psychiatrist. Clinicians collaborate with attending physicians making psychiatry consult referrals to clarify goals of psychiatric intervention and have ongoing communication with attending physicians, psychiatrists, medical floor staff, and care management to provide continuity of care, excellent patient care, and a decreased length of stay. Consult clinicians must be flexible, able to work autonomously, adept at multi-tasking, and adjust well to the needs of a fast paced environment in changing locations on medical floors of two campuses. This position also provides clinical supervision to Master's level or Bachelor level mental health student interns and psychiatric intake department trainees as needed.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Masters Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Ph.D. in Psychology or other equivalent degree in a recognized mental health field

 

REQUIRED LICENSE: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Ph.D Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, or other appropriate licensure as related to education. Must have State 1st Evaluation Credentialing and be a North Carolina Notary and be BLS certified.

 

PREFERRED LICENSE: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor with Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 7 years post graduate experience in mental health

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Ten years post graduate experience in mental health with extensive experience in intake/assessment/triage positions.
