Overview

The Lab Manager is the laboratory's LCMS expert who works under Owner and is responsible for the operation, workflow, and supervision of LC-MS/MS instruments, data quantitation, and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an effective culture of laboratory safety. Ensures that the laboratory and environmental conditions are appropriate for the testing performed and provide a safe environment in which employees are protected from physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
  • Responsible for operating, calibrating, maintaining, loading, and running of LC-MS/MS. Prepare standards or reagents that are needed for the analysis procedure.
  • Trains lab analysts on operation of LC-MS/MS, standard preparation, and data quantitation and supervises related activities.
  • Responsible for batch quantitation and data importing to LIMS (LIMS ABC) for all assays done on LC-MS/MS.
  • Responsibly manages the consumable and capital resources of the section, reports the needs to the Laboratory Leadership proactively, and communicates needs and issues with Laboratory Leadership.
  • Ensures LC-MS/MS in working order; recognizes malfunctioning equipment and coordinates instrument maintenance, including preventative maintenance, with instrument specialists.
  • Maintains quality control records and procedures for each test. Works with the Laboratory Director and Quality Assurance personnel to develop and implement a Laboratory Quality Assurance (LQA) program to assure the reliability and validity of the analytical data produced by LC-MS/MS.
  • Completes Corrective Action Reports (CARs) and Preventative Action Reports (PARs) when necessary.
  • Effectively prioritizes work for self and team members; keeps leaders informed on daily production progress, issues, etc. as directed.
  • Prepare and review SOPs and other documentation; update SOPs to reflect method and workflow changes.
  • Follow all laboratory methods, protocols, and SOPs; follow company procedures, guidelines, and policies.
  • Collaboratively perform other duties as needed to support company goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in a lab environment with increasing level of responsibility, including 3+ years of hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, lead, and train team members.
  • Experience working in a regulated laboratory with strict QA and QC programs, and related knowledge preferred – CAP and/or CLIA.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, and strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent judgment, cognitive skills, innovative thinking, and problem-solving abilities; ability to react to situations with a sense of urgency and responsibility.
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills; the ability to communicate (verbal/writing) effectively at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Dependable and punctual; ability to work flexible hours, including late nights and/or weekends, as needed.
  • Positive teamwork-based attitude; a champion for our people, values, culture, company, and brand.
