The job requires the development of new features and improvements of medical digital insight software products for Leica Microsystems. This includes, specifically, PC-based application software for controlling Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) devices, for integration of OCT devices with Leica’s medical microscopes, and for acquiring, processing, and managing images produced by the OCT devices, the microscopes, or other peripheral devices. The primary activities include writing design requirements and specifications, developing and implementing software designs, writing design documentation, performing unit and integration testing, and providing ongoing technical support. In addition, the position is responsible for the commercial release and maintenance of existing software products. This position also provides engineering support to marketing and business development as to the feasibility, effort estimation, and risk analysis associated with proposed software product development. The senior software engineer also works in conjunction with hardware engineers to perform research into new data acquisition and signal analysis techniques.

Measure of performance

Design and implement software solutions for Leica Microsystems OCT products

Deliver implementations of new features on time and in the expected quality.

Document designs and test cases

Deliver documents using provided tools that are of expected usability by other team members.

Present design proposals to the team and actively participate in design discussions with other teammates

Lead design reviews with expected communication skills and proficiency.

Ensure software solutions are implemented in accordance to the Leica Product Development Process, ensuring work adequately meet quality, safety, regulatory, maintainability, and reliability standards

Provide expected contributions using Danaher Business Systems deliverables including visual management. Provide implementations and documentation that meets given standards.

Support applications specialists and service personnel to diagnose and resolve and/or propose solutions with customer requests and issues.

Establish successful working relationship with team members; make expected contributions to resolve problems with legacy and new problems.

  • NuGet package management
  • Moq Unit testing framework
  • Serial communications protocols
  • Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM)
  • Picture and Archiving Communication Systems (PACS)
  • Secure Programming
  • HIPAA and GDPR compliance requirements


  • BS Degree in computer science / engineering or related technical field.
  • Advanced degree is desirable
