HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Clinical and Experimental Orthopaedics Laboratory, within the Department of Surgery, located at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the Department of Surgery.

Clinical and Experimental Orthopaedics Laboratory (CEO) is seeking a highly motivated self-starter for a Postdoctoral Fellow position. Mentorship will be provided by senior scientists that are field leaders. Pre-clinical testing of cutting edge, first-in-class therapeutics in cell culture and rodent models of neuromusculoskeletal injury will be performed.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development. (20%)
  2. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products. (20%)
  3. Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures. (20%)
  4. Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments. (20%)
  5. Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals. (10%)
  6. Write and review manuscripts to be published in peer-reviewed and other scientific journals. (10%)
  7. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Cell and tissue culture experience required. Experience with rodent surgery, histology, biochemical analysis, behavioral analysis, and detailed record keeping. Manuscript and grant writing experience strongly preferred. Excellent written and oral skills. Must be comfortable working with animals and experience with animal models (rodents and ideally pigs).

Minimum Education: Doctoral degree is required.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 0-5 years of relevant work experience is required.

Work Environment: Set in an office and laboratory work environment.

Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
