Requisition Number: S_210288 Department: Food Science & Technology-0836 Description of Work: The Quantitative Life Sciences Initiative provides direction within the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at the intersection of the data and life sciences. Reporting to and under the direction of the Initiative, the Web Applications Developer will develop and implement web-based frameworks for providing information and analytical results from biological data to answer important scientific questions and support a variety of analytic activities, data-gathering tasks, and research projects. This job will entail but is not limited to: Participate in the entire lifecycle of web application deployment and maintenance (i.e., planning, development, deployment, maintenance, etc.), including ongoing continuous improvement and development of product. Develop web interfaces and web-accessible databases for hosting and accessing the results of agricultural research activities. Work collaboratively in an inclusive and supportive team environment, while proudly owning results on projects, including performance standards and timeline. Communicate results to internal and external customers. The work will involve consulting with research administration, faculty, and postdoctoral associates to assess what data are relevant to meet objectives and developing web-accessible systems for delivering data and related findings. See: Minimum Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, or related field plus one year of experience with web development and frameworks; equivalent education/experience considered. Basic knowledge of development and management of web-accessible databases and analyzing data and interpreting results. Evidence of highly developed quantitative and coding skills. Familiarity with the R Statistical Language and/or Python libraries and modules. Strong working knowledge of version control systems (such as Git), MySQL, and web application frameworks. Experience must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in computer science, statistics, or related field. Ability to work independently gathering requirements, problem solving, designing, implementing and testing possible solutions. Advanced experience with Git and the Laravel web framework. Familiarity with UNL HTML / CSS /JS templates. Experience in agriculture and life sciences research and working within a collaborative and diverse team. Experience with writing project proposals and task plans. Desire to learn new skills and systems and a willingness to adapt to change. Posted Salary: $53,780/yr. minimum Job Type: Full-Time
