The Research Technologist is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Tribology Laboratories at Zimmer Biomet Warsaw facilities, and for operating and maintaining complex laboratory equipment for the necessary assigned tasks per area work instructions. This position is also responsible for equipment calibration and maintenance, purchase of lab supplies, and trending of test results, among other responsibilities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collects data by using independent judgment to determine most appropriate method of test/experiment and records output.
  • Accurately records data and assists in its organization and analysis.
  • Performs required maintenance of laboratory equipment, machinery and procedures.
  • Assists engineers, scientists and technicians and has contact with others in the research department, as well as with cross functional departments.
  • May assist in designing and constructing special fixtures and apparatuses for testing purposes.

Expected Areas of Competence

  • Ability to independently perform all lab procedures in a timely manner.
  • Ability to operate basic and complex mechanical test machines and record key measurements.
  • Must possess an understanding of scientific terminology.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and algebraic equations.
  • Ability to determine proper method for completing tasks from a predefined set of options.
  • Ability to assess results from testing, identify any abnormalities in results, and escalate as appropriate.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of computer systems/databases.
  • Must be willing to abide by procedures, federal documents, ISO 13485, GLP’s, GMP’s, etc. required by the job.
  • Must be willing to attend educational courses as required by the job.
  • Must be able to plan and organize own work activities to complete job assignments within allotted time and do so under pressure of constant deadlines.
  • Must possess sound communication skills, both written and verbal, for accurate documentation of testing and lab procedures.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of  a High School Diploma or GED is required; Associates Degree in Engineering Mechanics, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Technology or other related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of applied experience is required.
  • Must be able to work overtime (including weekends) as the job demands.
  • Must be able to do repetitive bending, climbing, and be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders to a second story height.
  • Must have good hand dexterity.
  • Must be able to work in a laboratory environment and possess basic knowledge of hydraulic equipment.

  • Up to 5%
