This position will be responsible for Contracts Management and business related legal activities for the Honeywell Building Solutions (HBS) BeNeLux business entities within the Home & Building Technologies (HBT) business group. HBS installs, integrates and maintains the systems to help keep buildings and facilities safe, secure, comfortable and cost-efficient, and is a leading provider of energy efficiency solutions worldwide. HBS specializes in service of critical building systems, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), building automation, fire, security and energy management.

HBS is now looking for a strong candidate able to fill a Senior Contracts Representative role in Belgium. This role will ensure a solid contracts and legal support in a complex business environment and support HBS BeNeLux. The Contracts Manager will particularly focus on all major pre-contracts and post-contracts/legal activities. The successful candidate will be part of HBS BeNeLux Leadership Team that is driving the business in the country.

The role is based in Brussels, Diegem.

The BeNeLux are a complex cluster of countries in terms of laws and regulations – and as such requires a Regional Contracts Manager to adopt a solid understanding of our products and services, market mechanics and practises. Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations is of great importance to this function. Also, the candidate needs to understand, apply and facilitate trainings regarding our internal approval and compliance policies and needs to have a solid understanding of anti-corruption and anti-trust laws. Attendance to important internal meetings, monthly reporting and trainings for our Sales and Operations are required on a regular basis. Traveling will be required about 10-15% of the time.

The Regional Contracts Manager for BeNeLux will be closely working together with our existing Contracts Manager in other Regions.

The Senior Contracts Representative for BeNeLux will report to the General Counsel HBS Europe & High Growth Regions (solid line) and will to the Regional General Manager for BeNeLux (dotted line).

Job Responsibilities

  • Review customer contract terms and conditions and make necessary amendments to align them with our terms and conditions policy and market practise.
  • Lead customer negotiations to assure customer agrees to acceptable terms.
  • Obtain necessary approvals according our Schedule of Executive Approvals and our Approval Process for deviations to our terms and conditions policy and market practise.
  • Facilitate the booking gate per our booking policies.
  • Develop and improve on other contracting processes as required.
  • Assure compliance of our Sales Team with our Approval Processes / eCAP / NEX / LEAP and other policies and procedures as required.
  • Support Project Management and execution in any legal post-contract disputes.
  • Support and function as a focal point for external law firms to manage litigations.
  • Support our claims processes as required, identify and mitigate contractual and commercial risks.
  • Support the Sales Team in bidding processes especially at complex public bidding procedures.
  • Support Back-Office, Finance and Working Capital Teams in order acknowledgements, claim management, getting receivables in and bank guarantee procedures.
  • Support Supply Chain Management in obtaining framework agreements with suppliers or subcontractors.
  • Provide timely monthly reports of contract metrics and complex legal issues.

Knowledge & Qualification

  • Solid knowledge of Belgian civil, trade and contracting laws.
  • Knowledge in public procurement law is a plus.
  • Expertise and solid experience in contract negotiation principles and techniques.
  • Understanding of financial concepts and impact of contract terms on those concepts.
  • Solid knowledge of laws and regulations governing the contracts (construction law background is a plus).
  • Ability to multi-task on a large number of complex contract issues.
  • Ability to find, argue and gain acceptance of new approaches and objectives.
  • Ability to draft, deploy, train and apply policies and procedures in the field.
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization and support the business from a functional leadership perspective.

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in Belgian law.
  • Any additional legal or commercial education is a bonus.
  • Belgian native speaker (both fluent in French and Dutch) with strong knowledge in commercial English.
  • 5+ years in commercial business or industry, preferably large companies in construction or technology industries.
  • Experience with high quality, high cost products, services, and/or complex projects is a bonus.
  • Experience in contractual dispute management.
  • Sound experience in analysing contract terms & conditions and pragmatic assessment of risks. 
  • Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Function as a team player, friendly, polite and self-motivated, adaptable and goal-oriented, willing to be a business enabler.
