Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Paper Machine Assistant Superintendent (Optimizer) to join our team in Monticello, MS. This position will provide strategic and tactical leadership to achieve key operation objectives in safety, environmental compliance, reliability, production, quality, and cost.

The successful candidate will focus on safely improving productivity and reducing costs through process/equipment optimization and operator knowledge/skill improvement. The Assistant Superintendent will be able to effectively manage many high priority tasks and projects with a sense of urgency and possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to utilize a constructive challenge process to drive to the optimum solution. Ability to build relationships and communicate with different levels of the organization are important to be successful in this role.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Driving a culture of safety and environmental excellence through critical hazard identification, risk reduction, and risk mitigation
  • Working with front line supervisors to coach and develop employees
  • Leading teams in the identification, development, evaluation and implementation of safety, quality and/or cost reduction initiatives and projects that add the highest value to the operation to drive continuous improvement
  • Championing plans for both outage and routine maintenance
  • Understanding, communicating and aligning goals in the area of quality, production, safety and reliability
  • Driving process & equipment modifications that result in improved product quality, reduced variation and higher customer satisfaction
  • Ensuring major quality non-conformance events are identified, owned, investigated and effective corrective actions are implemented to mitigate / eliminate waste
  • Providing leadership through the application of Koch’s Market Based Management® (MBM®) philosophy to achieve superior results

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • Five years or more of kraft paper operations experience
  • Two years or more of experience in implementing improvement processes
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering
  • Five years or more of supervisory experience
  • Experience with linerboard or similar grades of paper
  • Ten years or more of paper optimization experience
  • Experience managing in a labor union environment
