Job Summary

The Auburn University Libraries' Innovation & Research Commons (I&RC) in RBD Library includes research, multimedia, and design components and additional innovative learning spaces to support AU's teaching and research endeavors.

The I&RC is seeking applicants for the position of Student Assistant to assist users, faculty, and staff with daily operations in multiple areas of the space. Successful applicants will be placed in one or more of the following areas based on skillsets: Makerspace, VR/AR Space, and Help Desk.

Essential Functions

Students would perform the following duties:

•Maintain and check out/in technology equipment to users.
•Assist users with a wide variety of software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative Suite products, Autodesk products, ArcGIS, audio and video editing software, data visualization/management software.
•Assist users with technology hardware.
•Perform user training on equipment.
•Assist users with locating microforms and operating microform readers.
•Report for shifts on time.
•Answer questions at the desk.
•Answer phones.
•Set up large-format printing for users.
•Keep work and public areas presentable.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have working knowledge of or experience in ONE OR MORE of the following areas:

•Technology hardware basic troubleshooting, including but not limited to: PC and Mac desktop computers, laser printers, large-format inkjet printers, flatbed and large-format scanners, and other digitization equipment.
•Adobe Creative Cloud experience.
•Statistics and data visualization software experience, e.g. Excel, R, SPSS, SQL, ArcGIS, Tableau, etc.
•Programming languages, e.g. Python, C, C++, C#, Java, shell scripting, machine language, etc.
•Engineering software, e.g. SolidWorks, Solid Edge, AutoCAD.
•Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality (VR/AR) hardware.
•Audio recording equipment and software.
•Video recording equipment and software.
•Additive manufacturing, 3D printing, and 3D scanning.
•Sewing machines, fiber arts, and textile work.
•Basic electronics and circuit board design, soldering, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi.

Successful applicants will be assigned to the I&RC area that best fits their skill set(s).

Starting at $7.25/hour

Work Hours

Students will work up to 20 hours per week between the following days/hours depending on availability.

    Welcome to Auburn University! 

     

    Auburn University was established in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College, 20 years after the city of Auburn's founding. In 1872, under the Morrill Act, the school became the first land-grant college in the South and was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1899 the name again was changed, to the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Finally, in 1960 the name of the school was changed to Auburn University, a title more in keeping with its location, and expressing the varied academic programs and larger curriculum of a major university.

    Today, Auburn is one of the few universities to carry the torch as a land, sea and space grant university. Our fall 2014 semester enrollment was 25,912. Our students can choose from more than 140 degree options in 13 schools and colleges at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels.
