Essential Responsibilities:

  • Analog system design:
  • Precision low noise and high immunity analog design, layout, and test/debug
  • DC-DC switching regulators specification, layout, and test
  • Li+ ion battery charging and conditioning
  • Schematic capture and PCBA layout utilizing Altium
  • Digital system design using FPGA based or SOC embedded platforms:
  • High-speed data handling
  • Motion control utilizing brushless DC motors
  • Signal conditioning and processing
  • Thermal control
  • Design for Test
  • Participate in multi-functional project teams with scientists, technical support, and other engineers to create new and resolve existing software/firmware issues in diverse systems
  • Skill in the art of root-cause failure analysis on integrated systems.
  • Document hardware interfaces for software/firmware: write technical specifications for interfaces and testing.
  • The transition of technology/designs from R&D to Instrument Manufacturing/ NPI.

Required Knowledge Skills, and Ability:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with validated ability OR
  • Master’s degree in EE with validated experience.
  • 8+ years of responsibilities in product development and product support.
  • Experience in working in diagnostics, medical device, life sciences, or biotechnology industry
  • Electrical engineering background in microprocessor-based, mixed-signal embedded systems ADC/DAC control, sensor signal conditioning using op-amps, electro-optic systems, and motor control.
  • Proven understanding of USB, I2C, SPI, Serial, Ethernet, TCP/IP, robotics, and system power engineering.
  • Fast learner, self-motivated, willing to work outside the job description.
  • Demonstrated analytical/experimental problem-solving skills to understand hardware, software, reagents, and consumables issues and to be able to quickly analyze and resolve system inter-operability problems.
  • Solid understanding of statistics, calculating system signal-to-noise, comparing to measurement.
  • Able to work well while balancing multiple projects and meet project goals.
  • Validated understanding of regulatory safety and EMC standards and test methods
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience guiding and working towards root cause analysis, corrective actions and continuous process improvements
  • Strong ability to self-manage, take initiative, coordinate, and work on multiple projects at different stages in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective project management skills, planning, and monitoring capability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with embedded system hardware/firmware co-design of microcontroller chips and low-latency systems.
  • Experience with Cypress PSoC or similar mixed-signal SOC platform a strong plus.
  • Experience in low noise signal conditioning utilizing op-amps, DC-DC power regulation, SPI, USB.
  • Familiarity with scripting tools, such as Perl and Python.
  • Experience using simulation tools such as SPICE, Simulink, MATLAB,
  • Experience implementing embedded USB and Ethernet communications.
  • C, C++ programming experience is desired.
  • Experience with embedded Linux on ARM and/or RTOS is a plus.
  • Medical device or regulated industry experience a plus.

Physical requirements/abilities:

  • Ability to work in an office environment and lift 25 lbs.
  • Occasional travel required.
