Overview:

The Permit & Inspection Specialist must be a hands on, driven, process focused, and business minded individual, who excels in highly collaborative and cross functional environments. The position works to improve the business by identifying gaps and overlaps, developing, standardizing, and implementing policies and procedures for both permitting and inspections. A high level of critical thinking and follow through is expected on all initiatives. Projects include but are not limited to: tool management and development, process advancements, standards and practices, and more.

This position also supports Branch Managers with hiring, training, and overseeing permitting and inspection duties. The Permit & Inspection Specialist acts as a liaison to other departments and represents the interest of permit and inspections. Examples include, but are not limited to, working together with the Branch Operations teams and the Sunrun Design Engineering Team to resolve any jurisdictional corrections and prepare for upcoming requirement changes; working together with the Safety and Field Efficiency and Quality teams to ensure compliance on Sunrun safety and quality standards for inspections.

The Permit & Inspection Specialist will effectively forecast and plan the flow and availability of permits, completing inspections in a timely manner, and be accountable for driving both permit and inspection teams to meet to branch and company goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, update, and report on permit and inspection performance/status in accordance with business goals
  • Identify and escalate concerns to evaluate employee performance and develop talent
  • Assist Branch Managers with hiring, training, and coordinating permitting and inspection personnel
  • Travel to regional offices to drive continuous process improvement and standardization
  • Manage implementation of permit and inspection process and procedures to branches, including communication, training and feedback
  • Identify business risks and opportunities, work with team to create a plan, and work across functions and execute
  • Combine various, and sometimes competing, interests into an efficient and optimized strategy & platform
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with other team leaders (operations, sales, customer care, accounting etc.,) to align permit and inspection needs with overall business needs
  • Act as the subject matter expert of workflow management and other tools used during permitting and inspection
  • Understand technology platforms and technical requirements for software improvements, and identify areas of improvement
  • Execute initiatives pertaining to permitting and inspection process changes, as well as tool & software improvements 
  • Manage process documentation from gathering feedback, researching and confirming information to develop permit and inspection best practices, standards and guidelines, and create process documents. Keep documentation resources current
  • Be an advocate for Sunrun and work with local jurisdictions to streamline permit processes
  • Challenge conventional industry/internal thinking and practice to find new ways to make the customer’s experience with Sunrun better than the competition

Qualifications:

  

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of related experience required
  • Project or program management experience preferred
  • Management experience preferred
  • Photovoltaic Solar experience, and knowledge of NEC code required
  • Exposure to PV design and installation processes is required
  • Must be a motivated team player, looking to succeed
  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to influence change

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Professional appearance and interaction
  • Strong computer skills
  • Maintain valid Driver’s License
