Job Description

The Quality Assurance (QA) & Corporate Safety Specialist provides support to the Corporate Offices, QA, Contact Center and Asset Recovery - Camarillo ("CAM") in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Harbor Freight Tools Safety, Health, Environmental and Workers' Compensation Program. Also, the administration of all Industrial Hygiene testing, analysis and implementation of required programs such as hearing conservation and respiratory protection across the entire company. This role also oversees the IDER (Infectious Disease Emergency Response Plan) which includes COVID-19 prevention and response plans and involves providing technical support and guidance of ergonomic concerns for all Calabasas and Camarillo operations. This role works closely with others within the QA, Safety, Human Resources, Asset Recovery, Retail-Contact Center, Risk Management, Environmental and Legal departments, and provides updates to and maintains the Injury and Illness Prevention Program including training, auditing, and responding to regulators for the Corporate Offices, Asset Recovery, Contact Center and QA. In addition, the QA & Corporate Safety Specialist strives to inspire compliance with and a desire to maintain company safety standards and maintaining a safe work environment. The QA & Corporate Safety Specialist is also responsible for assisting monitoring for changes to and compliance with regulations and laws at the local, state and federal levels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as the safety representative for all operations in Calabasas and Camarillo including but not limited to the Corporate Offices, QA, Signature Store, Asset Recovery and the Retail Service Center. Administer the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and all emergency response activities.
• Provide Industrial Hygiene oversight for all Harbor Freight Tools operations to include facilitation of all industrial hygiene sampling and noise monitoring and the administration of all applicable programs such as respiratory protection, hearing conservation and flammable liquids handling. This will include setting up sampling and conducting analysis of results. Based on these results, develop programs/processes, training and controls to insure all employees (both directly and indirectly involved) are adequately protected.
• Ensure all applicable OSHA required training is complete, meets OSHA requirements and audits are completed to ensure compliance during operation. This includes forklift and scissor lift operation, working with hand tools, ladder safety and others.
• Provide ergonomic support for all Calabasas and Camarillo activities with focus on workstation set-up in the corporate offices and Retail Service Center, but also to address working from home/home office set-up as we move to a more remote working environment.
• Oversee COVID-19 IDER to insure the proper preventative measures/training are in place to do our best to prevent exposures in the workplace. Participate in the investigation/reporting of potential claims and the appropriate responses. Monitor regulatory agency changes and adapt our programs to the changes.
• Facilitate monthly safety inspections of the corporate offices, Camarillo Operations (Contact Center, Asset Recovery, Signature Store and QA), provide reports showing all findings and maintain corrective actions lists to track all findings to completion.
• Participate in evaluations for all new and changes in existing testing and evaluation activities in QA. Make recommendations and develop procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and safe work practices in these activities.
• Work closely with the Workers' Compensation team to maintain thorough and accurate OSHA injury and illness records, as well as respond to all OSHA inspections, citations or requests for information. Along with the Safety/WC teams, complete all required OSHA reporting including annual electronic submission of annual information, BLS surveys, posting of 300 summary logs, etc.
• Facilitate safety committees, communications and trainings as required.
• Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions. Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures to management. • Monitor Safety Hotline reports, safety suggestions and other reported safety concerns, assist in the investigation and resolution of these items
• Develop and maintain emergency evacuation/preparedness plan for all Corporate, Camarillo and QA facilities and coordinate post-incident responses. This will include making sure and Emergency Response Team is trained CPR/FA/AED and other response skills and appropriate equipment is available and inspected and, at a minimum, annual drills are conducted.
• Investigate work related accidents/incidents at the Corporate offices/QA/Contact Center/AR/Signature Store or involving corporate/QA employees (this includes injuries or occupational diseases/COVID-19) to determine causes and preventive measures and track all preventative measures, along with the applicable departments, to completion.
• Prepare monthly reports for all accident investigations, facility inspections, or industrial hygiene testing and other activities.
• Conduct or coordinate all required OSHA training for all Calabasas and Camarillo Operations.
• Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents • Maintain liaisons with outside organizations such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams, so that emergency responses can be facilitated

  Requirements

Job Qualifications - Education and Experience

• B.A./B.S. in Safety and/or Industrial Hygiene is required
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related technical discipline is required
• ASP/CSP strongly desired
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations as well as other regulatory standards including, but not limited to ANSI, NIOSH, NFPA, NEC, and DOT is required
