This position provides support and engineering analysis for the ongoing research projects of MwRSF along with the management and coordination of research projects. Serve as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) on research studies. Learn more about our research here: Position will make decisions and recommendations that are authoritative and have important impact on extensive MwRSF activities. Use creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in anticipating and solving unprecedented problems. Work on programs with complex features. Keep informed of new methods and developments affecting MwRSF and recommend new practices or changes in emphasis programs. Apply knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve crucial issues with unique conditions. Apply thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering to a variety of MwRSF projects and programs. Minimum Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering. Must have two (2) years of relevant experience in all of the following: engineering analysis and design, computer simulation modeling, impact analysis, research and development, and physical testing of materials and prototypes. Experience with nonlinear finite element analysis methods, such as LS- DYNA , BARRIER VII , ANSYS , ABAQUS , ADINA , etc. Must be proficient with engineering, spreadsheet, and word processing software. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Solidworks, or other similar CAD software, is necessary to create or review detailed design drawings. Technical writing experience. Engineer-in-Training ( EIT ) certification or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have five (5) years of relevant experience in roadside safety research, design, and testing. Experience in vehicle dynamics. Experience with LS- YNA and BARRIER VII . History of published research reports, journal articles, and conference papers. Experience in creating and providing technical presentations to sponsors, forums, conferences, etc. Knowledge of AASHTO's Roadside Design Guide, LRFD BDS , and MASH 2016. Experience with proposal preparation, acquisition of research funds, and project management. Professional Engineering (PE) license, or ability to obtain within three years Posted Salary: Commensurate with experience and education Job Type: Full-Time
