Job Type/Schedule: This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.   Department Name/Job Location: This position is in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology.  This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions: POSITION SUMMARY: The Kast Lab takes a multi-dimensional approach to the study of membrane trafficking, autophagy and cellular metabolism. Our main goal is to understand the mechanisms that drive the spatial and temporal arrangements of subcellular compartments in response to different metabolic conditions. Particular strengths of the lab include protein biochemistry, structural biology, cell biology and advanced imaging approaches. This position is responsible for assisting with laboratory duties in a research setting; performs routine tests with direction from the supervisor, manager or higher-level technician. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment. Assists with tissue culture and routine protein purification and characterization and spectroscopic assays. Maintains files on research and assists with data entry. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent high school certification. Preferred Qualifications: Sound communication skills. Experience with molecular biology, protein purification techniques, and sterile cell culture techniques.  Knowledge of statistical analysis is a plus. Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. Working knowledge of computer software. Applicant Special Instructions: WORKING CONDITIONS: This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals. Salary Range: The hiring range for this position is $13.80 - $15.97 per hour.
