Assistant Manager, Distribution Operations - Apex, NC

­­The Assistant Manager will support the day-to-day functions, specifically on night shift, of the Distribution Center located in Apex, NC. He or she will be responsible for delivering commitments and in turn better servicing our customers. He or she will align human capital, technical expertise and equipment to meet and exceed the needs of customers now and in the future.

The position will report to the Director, Distribution who is building a world class leadership team. In this role, the Assistant Manager will work closely with the Director, Distribution and other key staff members to support a best in class night shift operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to maintain night shift budgets and provide recommendations on capital expenditures and labor.
  • Provide general direction to Hourly Lead Employees in support of meeting and exceeding KPI targets, as related to Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.
  • Directs other activities associated with the distribution operations including maintenance, engineering, quality, scheduling, planning, and customer service.
  • Analyze current operations to identify areas for improvement that may lead to an increase in efficiency or reduction in cost.
  • Drive a continuous improvement mindset throughout the organization, starting with their peer Supervisor and working down into the organization. This will include layout changes and improved material flow within the warehouse
  • Assist with leading continuous improvement projects including lean implementation and 5S initiatives.
  • Lead improvement efforts for inventory accuracy within current WMS system. This will include working with IT and operations for streamlined processes within WMS structure
  • Leads and develops all direct reports and other individuals throughout the facility to ensure bench depth and a pipeline of talent for current and future needs.

Critical Skills and Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Business, Logistics, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership responsibility in a distribution environment
  • Track record of achieving growth and profitability targets including the reduction of costs while increasing operational efficiency, productivity, and quality.
  • Ability to effectively delegate and lead others in delivering to financial and customer service commitments.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels within the organization, from the floor to executive leadership team members.
  • Change agent skills must motivate and inspire others to see the company mission and vision.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Experienced SAP user; AS 400 experience is a plus
