The Role

We are currently seeking an innovative Principal Membrane R&D Scientist for the Membrane R&D group within Entegris' Liquid Filtration Division. This position will be based at our Bedford/Billerica, MA campus. As part of the Membrane R&D organization, a successful candidate will develop novel and advanced membranes and porous media for the control of micro-contamination for the semi-conductor industry.
In this role you will

Individuals in this position will be responsible for developing advanced membranes for micro-contamination control. The scientist will perform formulation, design and optimization of membranes for the semi-conductor industry. Responsibilities may include hands-on development membrane formulation and processing, consulting for membrane manufacturing and fabrication of devices. This may involve project and management responsibilities.

Traits we believe make a strong candidate

  • Must have a solid understanding of chemistry and chemical engineering principles.
  • Must have in depth theoretical and practical understanding of phase separation mechanisms of polymeric membranes such as immersion casting, melt casting and along with sintering/stretching processes.
  • Experience in rheology of polymers, especially polyolefins and fluoropolymers related to film and melt extrusion and film stretching processes.
  • Extensive experience in formulations using polymer, solvent and non-solvent systems.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of membrane structure-performance relationships, surface chemistry and retention mechanisms.
  • Strong track record of driving innovation.
  • Strong record of delivering new, innovative products, product patents and publications.
  • Able to work in a team setting working with team members from multiple functions and discipline.
  • Able to effectively collaborate and influence without the need for direct authority.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work well in a fast-paced, project-driven, R&D environment.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively while think independently and creatively.
  • Must have a sense of urgency and unwavering resolve to meet project timelines.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong problem-solving aptitude, with a desire to conduct experiments and do "hands on" work.
  • Normal amount of traveling is required.
  • PhD in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry/Material Science/Polymer Engineering with 5-10+ years of experience in film extrusion and membrane research and development.
  • Experience in semi-conductor membrane separation technologies a plus.
