Requisition Number: S_210165 Department: Food Processing Center-1181 Description of Work: This position supports the food industry in Nebraska and beyond by a) communicating with manufacturers and partners, b) developing and delivering preventive control courses for human food, animal food, and produce safety, following the standard curriculum of the Food Safety Preventive Control Alliance ( FSPCA ) and the Produce Safety Alliance ( PSA ), c) coordinating reviews of Food Safety Plans, d) actively engaging in Diagnostic Workshops with Gap Analysis assistance, quality control assessments and operational improvements, e) offering audits of in-plant sanitation and safety practices regarding Food Safety Plans, f) coordinating with other Food Processing Center staff, Manufacturing Extension Partnership staff, and Nebraska Extension specialists and educators to develop programs to serve the food industry in the context of The Food Processing Center's mission and strategic plan, g) promoting food safety services across National Institute of Standards and Technology ( NIST ) MEP system, h) creating innovative and high impact learning programs and tools, i) measuring the impact of his/her programs and j) accepting committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and or university level. Must obtain FSPCA Qualified Individual for human food within 6 months of hire. Minimum Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in food science and technology, food technology for companion animals, animal science with food/meat science concentration, biological systems engineering with a food engineering emphasis, or related field plus two years of experience working in quality, food safety compliance, or production in a food or pet food company or as progress toward a graduate degree. Training and strong knowledge of FSMA regulations and HACCP . Experience with quality control procedures in food manufacturing, including at least one of the following: statistical process control, LEAN principles, and/or other continuous improvement procedures. Must have a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirements. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in food science and technology, food technology for companion animals, animal science with food/meat science concentration, biological systems engineering with a food engineering emphasis, or related field. Familiarity with third-party audit systems ( GFSI programs). FSPCA Qualified Individual for human food and pet food, Lead instructor for either. SQF practitioner certification.
