Design Build / Engineering Manager – BRT Infrastructure   – Pasadena or Ontario, California

OPPORTUNITY:

Are you an Engineering Design Manager who likes to work on high profile infrastructure projects as part of a motivated, quality-focused, and highly experienced team?

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who will provide direction and management for engineering and design for BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) projects in California This role will be responsible for on-schedule completion and strict budget management in accordance with contractual obligations.  The Engineering Manager is responsible for the scope development, scope management and commercial performance of the project to meet project and client goals and objectives. To be successful in this role you will plan and define program goals and devise methods to accomplish them; you will also develop an in-depth knowledge of client objectives, contract terms, and corporate policies.  Typical projects for this role will range from $100 to $400 million in total installed cost.

The BRT Projects :

Bus rapid transit (BRT), also called a busway or transitway, is a bus-based public transport system designed to improve capacity and reliability relative to a conventional bus system.[2] Typically, a BRT system includes roadways that are dedicated to buses, and gives priority to buses at intersections where buses may interact with other traffic; alongside design features to reduce delays caused by passengers boarding or leaving buses, or purchasing fares. BRT aims to combine the capacity and speed of a metro with the flexibility, lower cost and simplicity of a bus system.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role will primarily oversee the contract execution, financial reporting, design-build and engineering deliverables supporting our BRT projects in Southern California, as well as other areas of the state. 

  • Acts as the Company representative with the client and subcontractors during the program execution
  • Negotiates changes to the scope of work with the client and key subcontractors and Markets and secures additional work with client
  • Participates in negotiations with regulatory agencies and in public meetings in support of clients.
  • Oversees establishment of Project Execution Plan, Health and Safety Plan, Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan, and other documents as required.
  • Establishes requirements for all areas of the project, and manages the draft and final deliverables for adherence to these criteria
  • Plans, directs, supervises, and controls the execution of all business, technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of the assigned project. 
  • Provides input to performance reviews and development plans for team members. 
  • Works with other managers, project engineers, and discipline leads to develop budgets, schedules, and plans for the various elements of a project.  Ensures that the project meets or exceeds goals established in these plans. 
  • Works with key project individuals to devise and execute action plans to rectify potential cost overruns or delays, or to accommodate significant changes to the scope of work. 
  • Assists in expanding the business by supporting business development activities, writing proposals and building client relationships. 

             

 REQUIREMENTS:

At least 15-20 years of related work experience is required.

Demonstrated management and supervisory experience with engineering and design aspects of civil road and highway projects, preferably in the State of California.

Recent experience with BRT projects is essential and required for this role, with a strong preference for California project experience.

Demonstrated experience working on fixed price design contracts preferred.

Familiarity with Caltrans and other local transportation and municipal agency requirements is highly desirable.

Incumbent should have a broad general technical and business background.  Professional California registration is required. 


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

Proven ability to perform in a management capacity, excellent written and oral communications skills, team leadership skills, and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are also required.  In addition, must be knowledgeable of current technology and how it can be effectively utilized on the project.
