The Corporate Communications Manager is at the forefront of educating consumers, the investment and business community, policymakers, as well as Sunrun employees, about home solar and battery power and Sunrun through strategic and integrated communications campaigns. You are a critical voice and creative, innovative, strategic brain behind efforts to build and disseminate human-centered messaging to reach key audiences. 


The Corporate Communications Manager will have significant experience working in a corporate environment telling stories that lift up products, brands, and key executive voices. They will work across nearly all internal departments to pursue high-quality consumer and corporate stories using human-centered narratives. The position will require a demonstrated ability to write compelling content and will look for opportunities to generate earned and owned media stories by proactively leveraging internal and external information. 


This role will be at the forefront of storytelling and strategic communications development around the acceleration of clean energy development across the United States. Sunrun’s Corporate Communications team will help drive the conversation about how local energy – like home solar and battery storage – can drive renewable energy-powered electrification of our buildings and transportation systems. We will define the urgency and advocate for the solution, including a vision of a future where individual homes are networked together to form clean “virtual power plants” and eventually shut down fossil fuels altogether.


The position will report to the Director of Communications and will work directly with Sunrun’s executive leadership team. You will also work closely and collaboratively with the product, marketing, investor relations, and policy teams, as well as the broader communications and public affairs team.


  • Support Corporate Communications efforts to enhance awareness and recognition of Sunrun as the leading home solar, battery, and energy services company in the United States.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, executives, and an external public relations agency to develop and execute strategic and integrated communications campaigns and activities.
  • Create content including writing blogs, press releases, opinion editorials, and executive communications.
  • Develop and execute internal communications to engage and inform Sunrun employees, as part of the overall Corporate Communications strategy.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams - including Policy, Investor Relations, Legal, Marketing, Products, Customer Care, and Sales - to create and launch shared messaging and lexicon for various company initiatives. 
  • Lead the development of Sunrun’s annual Impact report, highlighting the company’s progress in implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. 
  • Assist and lead initiatives touching the executive team, such as (but not limited to) speaking engagements and some media interviews. Will support the preparation for briefings ahead of various external and internal engagements.
  • Proactively identify consumer communications opportunities, make recommendations, and then execute.
  • Operate under a sense of urgency, meeting deadlines, and seeing projects through to completion.


  • 5-8 years of experience in corporate/consumer communications or public relations, preferably in a corporate environment or at an agency.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of integrated communications -- digital, print, online, social -- and how to leverage content strategies across channels.
  • Understanding of and passion for clean energy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including working collaboratively with other teams and functions, and the ability to build trust and gain confidence (particularly with executive leaders).
  • Ability to see the big picture and how the details come together to form it.
  • Proven experience distilling complex ideas, details, and facts into clear and simple messages. 
  • Excellent active listening, questioning, and facilitation skills. 
  • Proven ability to plan and prioritize multiple projects and demands by exhibiting strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Experience using project management and design tools.
